Speed Queen TR7 with a transmission!

I know some are pretty smug about how the regulations are making it difficult to get decent TL machines. Yet somehow I guess you think the regulations won't come after your physics-defying FLs. People pushing the regulations and their "green" agenda aren't going to stop. You can bet they...

question in maytag topload washer MVW6230HW

Reply #1 Sorry about the nonexistent link in the above post. I tried to add a title ("From Maytag TL to TC5 Under Warranty") at the last minute and apparently put it in the wrong place.

question in maytag topload washer MVW6230HW

It may depend on who you have your extended warranty with, Whirlpool/Maytag, independent dealer, or whoever. So first, what does your warranty say about repairs and replacement? I would think the first option the warranty would give you is to attempt to repair it, and offer a replacement if...

Speed Queen TR7 with a transmission!

Thanks Dan. They must have switched to plastic between '83 and '84. I hadn't worried about the hood support too much because it seems to slip nicely between the side of the clip that's still there and the upper radiator support, or whatever's there, without rattling around or damaging...

Speed Queen TR7 with a transmission!

BTW Jeremy, not to put words in your mouth, but I assume "fascist" is probably the word you were looking for. People tend to get the words confused and one of them I think is particularly offensive, but I trust that's not exactly the way you meant it.

Speed Queen TR7 with a transmission!

Yes, some components can be made lighter and cheaper. I've already said that. If you think that you can't tell the quality of a machine to some extent by inspecting it and looking at how it's made, well, call me a fool, but that's not my experience. Toyotas years ago were known for being...

Speed Queen TR7 with a transmission!

In my experience, weight far more often than not is an indication of the quality of the product and it's likely longevity, whether it's machines, power supplies, etc. I don't think it's an accident Speed Queen weighs around 50 lbs more than a Maytag, and is likely to last much longer...

Speed Queen TR7 with a transmission!

Thanks. But life costs are exactly what I was talking about, as explained on another thread, a washing machine that uses a lot of plastic parts that is designed to last 10 years, if you're lucky, isn't at all likely to be more resource friendly than a machine that last 20 years or more, even...

Speed Queen TR7 with a transmission!

By the way, I wouldn't think that anyone who knows anything about mechanical things and engineering, and cares about longevity, would think machines are less wasteful based on their lighter weight.

Speed Queen TR7 with a transmission!

As I pointed out, I also come from a military family and an a vet myself. You sure like to twist things. I was mocking what you said about the military being stupid, and by implication, anyone who uses a TL being stupid, as if there's no reason anyone ever would. I don't appreciate that...

Speed Queen TR7 with a transmission!

I don't know, but I suspect there may be something to what "panasonicvac" heard. There is often a basis to rumors, and the only reason I can see the Pentagon being involved is for considering approval to purchase. But another thought is that I believe there are supposed to be costs analysis...

Speed Queen TR7 with a transmission!

Yeah, we know John, anyone who buys a TL today is stupid, there's no purpose for them. FL are so wonderful! You make me think of a used car salesman trying to get me to trade in my truck on a Yugo with all the stats you come up with, then when challenged on them you run to another thread...

Speed Queen TR7 with a transmission!

Pentagon Washing Machine Contracts It does strike me as possible that the Pentagon isn't satisfied with the choice and quality of washers available in the US today that they would make a deal with Speed Queen, a GSA contractor, to supply more of what they want for installation on military bases...

Speed Queen TR7 with a transmission!

Washing Machine Wars Sad state of affairs. Australia gets machines made in the US that Americans would love to have, so we have to get the Pentagon involved because the Australians aren't going to give the machines back willingly.

You can't have both! At the risk of getting off topic, I'm not so sure. I think good policies and some sense could take care of both. But right now, despite what ever the intentions may be, we're getting neither. I'll leave it there, but I understand what you're saying.

Reply #19 John, you say "There is no evidence that these new machines only last 1/3 as long...". Yet pretty much anyone who has owned both machines can tell you that new machines are not likely to last anywhere as long. I used 1/3 as an example, who knows whether it's exactly 1/3, but I don't...

Recycling Have you studied the recycling industry? I don't believe it is as efficient and green as it's made out to be. How much energy and resources are used to separate the materials, crush them, grind them up, etc.? I've read a lot of stuff people think are being recycled are being hauled...

New Style VMW Type Machines "...they’re also 40 or 50 pounds lighter using a lot less materials to build the machine." Does producing cheap crap using less and cheaper materials that last a fraction as long really save resources and energy in the long run? Junkyards are full of "efficient"...

    Speed Queen oil weight

I wouldn't think it requires exceptionally heavy oil. If other manufacturers use 60 weight I don't see why Speed Queen would be different, I don't think there are any exceptional stresses or extreme heat on the transmission. However, I understand wanting to be sure. You can always use Speed...

What to ask for Speed Queen TC5/DC5 set?

Generally I think it would be easier to sell if listed separately, then whoever wants the set would buy both anyway. I'm not real sure about Speed Queen though. I mean, even for Speed Queen, $1,000 is getting toward the high end for a used three year old TL washer, and I would have an even...
