And in the absolute worst case, if you get in over your head or find something you can't repair, you could swap in the entire tub/transmission/damper assembly as a unit from a donor washer, and have your machine back up and running in short order.

A bit hard to read, but is that a "BK" serial number? If so, that cabinet is in *exceptionally* good shape for being from 1966!

Does the old motor alone (without any belts connected) spin freely by hand? It could also just need some oil.

There are, but I'm not aware of any that are AFCI/GFCI, so you would need to switch to an upstream unit or a combination breaker to remain code compliant.

I'd keep looking - an arc large enough to trip the breaker should have left *some* evidence of where it happened?
