Thanks John. I might have mislead with my wording - "so I'll keep this one and clean it up" was in reference to the base plate in particular, not the machine as a whole. I've taken the machine further apart, and it's definitely on the wrong side of the "too far gone / not worth rebuilding"...

The base of the machine looks fine. Not perfect, but infinitely better than the one on our A408, so I'll keep this one and clean it up. The prior owner mentioned replacing the damper pads at one point in the past. The pump is still of the older split type.

Just to be clear, you're asking specifically for mechanical timers, and not "knobs instead of buttons/displays", right? Because a lot of companies have kept the traditional user controls, but are all electronic behind the panel now. You would almost never know from the front.
