How many loads of laundry do you do per week?

I try to do everything as efficiently as possible, so my set up is probably different than most. I do at least 4 loads per week for a family of three. Lights and whites done together account for one load, then my darks have to be split into two loads, then my husband's filthy work jeans are...

    Penncrest Twin Tub: Worth Refurbishing?

Yes, agreed - the price was right. Bradross - Yes, I would like to use the machine for my weekly laundry. If it will only handle a single pair of jeans, that won't work. Thank you for the heads up on that. I guess we will have to pass on this machine after all. I'd love to have a Super Twin...

    Penncrest Twin Tub: Worth Refurbishing?

Sorry about the poor quality of pictures. I shrunk them down so that they weren't too big to download. Also, my husband found the one brown cover that is not on, and he found a dial that was not on the machine.

    Penncrest Twin Tub: Worth Refurbishing?

Hi folks. My husband knows I have been watching on and off for a twin tub. Today he spotted this machine at the recycling center. We would like to know, before we get too deep in, if it is worth saving? It appears to be complete, but also looks like it has been setting for a long time. Judging...

    STUPID DETERGENT IDEA 2-28-16

"You "may never have to buy again" laundry detergents, but instead, you have to buy other ingredients. Plus take the time and energy to put them together." Yes, you do have to buy these ingredients, but they are CHEAP. Like, way cheaper than buying laundry detergent. And yes, you do have to...

    STUPID DETERGENT IDEA 2-28-16

I use homemade dishwasher powder and white vinegar as the rinse agent. Been using these for four years with no problems. For about four years, I had used the homemade liquid laundry detergent with the bar of laundry soap, super washing soda and borax all dissolved in 5 gal. of water. I used...

    a Roomba in the house

Adding to my prior post, that point was made quickly to me while telling my husband that someone said the Roomba doesn't have suction. He quickly stated, "then why is there a HEPA filter?" It was a real "duh" moment for me...LOL!!

    a Roomba in the house

Dadoes - yes, there has to be some suction, or there would be no need for the HEPA filter. So it's not accurate to say there is no suction in the Roomba.

You Know You're A Member of AW When...

Lots of fun, funny and anecdotal stuff here, some of which I saw myself reflected in. :D Adding to it, I find myself rearranging items in the dishwasher if anyone but me loaded it. Certain things belong in certain places, which I am convinced of after surveying and contemplating angles of spray...

    a Roomba in the house

We have a Roomba and Scooba. I did not realize the Roomba didn't actually suck stuff up! Thank you to Whirlcool for mentioning that. We have a dog who is part black lab, and his shedding is just ATROCIOUS! I adore him to no end, but cannot stand his shedding! So the Roomba does at least pick up...

Just How Big/Bulky Are Wringer Washers Anyway?

I have a full size Whirlpool wringer washer. It is bulky, but not bad. In my laundry area, there is only room for a washer and dryer. I don't own a dryer. The space is adequate for my automatic and wringer. My wringer has long levers that stick out on each side. I believe the more modern ones...

Finally Found a Suds Saver on Craigslist

"glad you got something to fill your needs for the moment, this will get you through, one added benefit in your method compared to an automatic suds saver, the wash water doesn't have time to cool down.... some of us have automatic machines lined up, and transfer the wash water to the next...

Finally Found a Suds Saver on Craigslist

Ohhh...that's a great idea, delaneymeegan. I do not have a laundry sink, nor room for one either. For now, I am just starting laundry in the automatic, spinning out the wash water over to the wringer, and finishing all washing in wringer. Then all rinsing is done in the automatic. I do not see...

Finally Found a Suds Saver on Craigslist

Hi Goatfarmer. Thank you for offering, but I've found a regular top loader, which I will use in tandem with my wringer washer. Yogitunes - I have given up on the suds saver as I am out of time and desperately needed to do something. I have followed your advice yet again. Yesterday my husband...

I found a lint collector for my Maytag wringer that WORKS!!!

Wow...that's quite effective! Surprisingly, with my wringer I don't have any problems with dog hair coming out, but a bit with lint.
