Passing of One of Our Own - Kelly - Mixfinder

Wow - God bless Kelly's friends and family during this sad time. Everyone who knew and loved him can be comforted by the fact that he has gone home to be with the Lord and is no longer in pain. The outpouring of love for him on this site speaks volumes about the kind of person that he was and...

    EEEEK A LEAK !!!! 1982 Hotpoint Washer

Great washer My parents had a very similar Hotpoint Rim Flo from 1984 to about 2009 or so. The only repair it ever had was a new pump and a belt sometime in the '90s. Leaks are what finally killed it.

    Maytag transmission oil

GL-4 oil is OK for yellow metals (bronze) As far as I know from my former dabbling with VWs, GL-4 gear oil is OK for yellow metals. GL-5 however, is usually not.

    1978 Norge bearings? Seal?

Rusty hub/bearing If you haven't gotten the rusty bearing out of the hub, I would go to an auto parts store or hardware store and pick up some Evapo-Rust. I'll bet if you soak that hub/bearing for a few days in Evapo-Rust, it will dissolve the rust and make it easier to remove the snap ring and...

1960's Vintage Frigidaire twin oven stove

Frigidaire double oven/stove Ah yes - my aunt still uses her '68 model Frigidaire "Custom Imperial Twin 30" double oven/stove to this day (similar to the one pictured above.) Hers is model RCIE-639VN.

    This weekend's estate sale finds

Thing found under the washer That is the button from the off balance/lid switch mechanism. Hopefully the rest is still intact under the console. It looks exactly like the one on our A700.

Repair the original knob? Is there a chance that the original knob can be glued/epoxied back together? Is the switch OK? Andrew S.

Bengal Stove in Orange County NY

Came across this interesting old stove from the Orange County NY Garage Sale Group. This is a closed group, but you can get approval to view the posts. Stove is dirty, but has all original parts and there are matching ceramic salt/pepper shakers that come with the stove. Her phone # is posted...

Not near Saugerties I live in Pennsylvania and unfortunately will not be back that way anytime soon. Hopefully someone will save it - even if it is used for parts.

    Frigidaire 1-18 in Saugerties NY

I saw this worn-out looking 1-18 in the back lot of a Frigidaire appliance dealer while passing through Saugerties, NY this weekend (also see link.) It was next to a large dumpster so I am sure it will go to the crusher soon. Maybe it would be a good parts donor? The store looks interesting...

1930 RCA TV for only $700

Maybe 1960 1920s - 30s? LOL - only off by 30 - 40 years... Plus, TV didn't really become available until 1939 or so. And $700? This person is smoking serious loco weed.

    old detergents

One way to tell how old something is... ...is by looking for the company's address on the label. Zip codes started around '63 and I believe were required by '67. Earlier addresses either had a one or two digit zone or none at all for small towns.

    2000 KitchenPool KUDM25 dishwasher: Tune-up time?

Machine sounds normal When the machine runs it seems to sound normal, but any decrease in the force of the water coming out of the wash arms may have happened gradually. I keep the holes in the wash arms clean as well; they do occasionally get debris lodged inside. The machine seems to be...

    2000 KitchenPool KUDM25 dishwasher: Tune-up time?

Water level seems OK; float clicks Well, I checked it when it was doing an initial fill and it filled until the float "clicked" and the water valve closed. Since the water level seems to be OK I think the next step is to clean any minerals off of the pump inlet screen and perhaps take it apart...

    2000 KitchenPool KUDM25 dishwasher: Tune-up time?

Normal water level? Quick report back: I just opened the machine once it had filled and started running (it happens to be in the rinse cycle at the moment.) I see that the water level is a bit higher than the bottom of the heating element (maybe covering the element about 1/4 of the way...

    2000 KitchenPool KUDM25 dishwasher: Tune-up time?

Thanks for all of the replies Thanks for the replies everyone.  We do have hard water here, so that may be the main culprit.  I'll have to do some investigating this weekend and report back with my findings.

    2000 KitchenPool KUDM25 dishwasher: Tune-up time?

Water level, pump Good point about the water level - I will check to see how deep the water is after it stops filling.   There are no "manual" clean filters on this machine; it has a built-in food disposer.  I think I will have to take the pump apart to see what I can find.  Hopefully it...

    2000 KitchenPool KUDM25 dishwasher: Tune-up time?

Greetings: Our 13-year-old KitchenAid (Whirlpool designed) KUDM25 dishwasher has not been cleaning as well as it used to. Is it also leaving food particles on the dishes regardless of what cycle is selected. To date, the only service that I have had to perform was to replace the plastic...
