    New boiler after 66 years

Thank you, Eddie. That's exactly what I'm saying. I'd love to save money on utilities in the process. But, what I really want is a system that does what we need, and does it well. We do suspect that the previous company did set us up with a boiler that was undersized; although they denied that...

    New boiler after 66 years

Hi Phil, I apologize if I used the term incorrectly. I don't have anywhere near John's, or probably your knowledge and experience. And I have nothing but respect for that knowledge and experience. But, the only thing I have to go on is the negative experience we had with what was described as...

    New boiler after 66 years

Hi John. Believe me. I don't enjoy being negative. If I can give you a little back story: When we bought our house, it had a big H.B. Smith boiler that worked flawlessly. No matter how cold it was outside, or how high we turned up the thermostat, it never failed to meet our demands. Someone...

    New boiler after 66 years

Petek Glad things are going pretty well so far. The crew just showed up this morning to start our job. I misunderstood initially, and thought your new system was a combi. That's what we're getting. I wish we had more time to do our research. We may have been better off to go with a "boiler"...

    Yet another percolator

Post cleaning update Well, after letting it sit for about a half an hour, I dumped out the slightly discolored water, and gave it a light going-over with a dish brush. You guys nailed it with the DW detergent! Every old coffee stain is gone! Also, as per suggestion, I ran a follow-up cycle...

    Yet another percolator

Cleaning cycle Well, after shining up the outside as best I can, I just ran a cleaning cycle with liquid Cascade DW detergent. I'm still waiting for it to sit and soak for a while. I do have some concern about its working condition. I filled it to the 12 cup mark. So, I'm guessing it should...

Anyone know what is happening here? A Plumber?

Let me start by emphasizing that I'm probably the least do-it-yourselfy person on this site. And, I have no personal knowledge of plumbing fixtures. But, when we needed to replace our kitchen faucet, some years ago, we were advised to stick with Delta or Moen. We were told that they're the only...

    New boiler after 66 years

I would say congratulations. But, instead, I'll say I hope it works out well for you, and you're happy with it. It looks like we're going to be getting a similar system installed, maybe next week. Unlike a lot of people, I put "high efficiency" beneath "gets the job done to my satisfaction". Ten...

    Thrift store percolator

Just to be sure, and this will probably be a stupid question. Dishwasher detergent isn't foamy/sudsy, is it? I don't want to start perking a pot of detergent water, and have the kitchen look like a bad sitcom, or the Lawrence Welk show or something.

    Yet another percolator

Thanks, Eddie. This one is definitely an old timer. Made in USA. It says: FARBERWARE INC A Hanson Company Bronx, NY 10461 Let's hope it brews properly, and keeps the coffee hot!

    Yet another percolator

Another trip to the thrift store, another percolator that I couldn't pass up. It seems like no collection is complete without at least one Farberware Superfast. So, today, I got one. It's a 12 cup version. On the bottom, where it says "Model", it has J6 and 142B. I don't have pictures yet...

    Thrift store percolator

The cans with the key were a little before my time. But, I certainly remember metal cans with the plastic lid. I'll have to try the Colombian some time...if I can find it. I'm posting a picture of the bottom screw, and how it doesn't fit flush against the bottom plate itself. It's tightened as...

    Thrift store percolator

I'll try to get a picture of the problem area. It may not show up well in a picture. I'm wondering if there should be a gasket or washer or something between the base plate and the screw that secures it. That seems like it might help. John, I haven't tried it out yet. I want to get the...

    WTB Hoover floor nozzle

Hi all, I posted this at VL, but I figured someone here might be able to help as well. I’m looking for a Hoover straight suction floor nozzle to use on my Celebrity. Maybe the type with the floor/rug switch. My on board attachments are light beige, so that would be my first choice for color...

    Thrift store percolator

Thanks, Eddie! I always enjoy your replies! I've used vinegar and water, and I've tried cream of tartar to clean other percolators. I don't know if I'm doing it wrong, but I never get what I would consider good results. Maybe, when I have a badly stained one, I should try the dishwasher...

    Thrift store percolator

Hi all, I know some here collect coffee makers, and percolators specifically. I just thought I'd share a recent thrift store find. I already had a Universal Coffeematic, in a more traditional style. This one kind of caught me by surprise. It too, is a Universal Coffeematic, but a Model 4582. I...

    REQUIEM FOR A MICROWAVE OVEN?

    Hey Alex. It's a Model R-5H82. Here's a crappy picture.

    REQUIEM FOR A MICROWAVE OVEN?

Yay! I'm late to the party, or I was going to suggest/hope fuse a well. The same thing happened to our 1991 Sharp Carousel recently, and it was a fuse. So glad you're back up and running! Barry
