In terms of comparing the performance and user experience of vented electric versus gas dryers, I can't say I've ever noticed a difference.  Of course there are differences between makes and models etc., but I've never noticed a difference resulting from being gas or electrically heated.

Update: Thanks for the advice on fixing up this washer.  I'm pleased to say it's working great with no leaks!  I removed the pump and it showed no signs of ever having leaked, so I think the dripping during draining might have been due to a loose hose.  Nevertheless I installed the new pump but...

It's certainly much worse than I was expecting.  I definitely want to keep this set, so I'll fix the tub with POR-15 and just hope it holds up!

If I could get a new tub under warranty, that would be great.  But I don't know who the original owner was and the warranty was never transferred to me, so I don't know if there's anything I can do about that now.

However, there is a leak that only happens during drain.  It appears to be coming from the pump.  It is not coming from the new self-cleaning lint filter, which I've just installed.   I wanted to buy this 4-port pump to replace my 4-port pump, but the box of this pump mentions manual-clean...

Update: Yesterday I prepped the tub and centre post and then applied a couple of coats of POR-15.   And then I applied J-B Weld around the drain port over the layers of POR-15.   Tested today and no leaks at all during washing!
