    Alliance Reports RECORD profits

This is super news! And it's an American company to boot! I regret not looking at Speed Queen washers when the transmission on my first top loader went out.

    Hotpoint "Compact Automatic Washer"

Congratulations! And unique, to say the least! Hope it lasts for a while and that you get lots of entertainment out of it :-).

    Ultimate clean out item!

My aunt and uncle have this same dishwasher with the black panels installed. Their house was built in 1983. It almost 27 years old and, to my knowledge, has never had to be fixed! Somebody on here who needs a good, reliable dishwasher should grab this!

2012-Conventional top load washers being discontinued?

Yay, Rex and Chromecap! Well said! The same thinking applies to toilets. They're toilets for crying out loud! They need water to properly flush and keep from plugging up pipes and septic or sewer systems. I don't ever recall the older five- to seven-gallon-per-flush models plugging up like...

    Whirlpool Agitators

Interesting, Kevin, and sorry to hear about the damage to your clothes in a direct-drive machine. It'd be a treat to see one of the earliest direct drives with the spin drain. I've heard of them but never seen one. Everyone I knew that had Kenmores either still had a belt drive or bought a...

    Whirlpool Agitators

I have to admit that I don't understand all this hype about the harshness of direct-drive machines. ANY washer could damage your clothes if overloaded. In the entire nine years I've lived on my own, I've used Kenmore or Whirlpool direct-drive washers. NEVER has anything been ripped or abraded...

Issues with China made items - A rant of sorts!

Good point, Hunter. I appreciate your common sense approach and I'm glad you brought up the issues of tort and healthcare reform. Those will destroy us, too, if not dealt with sensibly.

Bruce, thanks for starting such a cool thread! In northern Minnesota, my parents have always had extremely hard water with mostly dissolved iron deposits. Needless to say, it didn't take long for the clothes to get that dingy look. Even blue jeans turned orange after a while. So, most of my...

Issues with China made items - A rant of sorts!

Let's keep in mind that not all U.S. companies are unionized these days. There are a great deal of smaller, privately-held companies that manufacture in this country and do not need a union to keep their workers happy and provide them with decent wages and benefits. But, that's a different story...

Issues with China made items - A rant of sorts!

I could rant about this issue for days--perhaps even make it a career! When you come from a blue-collar family mostly employed in manufacturing as I have, you quickly understand how global trade has become a political issue rather than one designed to put people back to work and help reduce...

    That does it!

I've gotten some feedback from a handful of members. But, by all means, keep it coming! Thanks!

Well, I'm at the 5 year mark...Should I change my hoses?

Nylon-shielded washer hoses I bought these in March 2008 to upgrade from the ones supplied with my original Whirlpool Ultimate Care II top loader because I absolutely refuse to use the Chinese-made crap that's most often available. They cost $26.00 plus tax at the Sears Home Central parts...

    That does it!

Jed, I love that Maytag! I'm still thinking about what kind I want. This is going to be a very difficult decision. LOL!

    That does it!

Brian, that's okay! It's good information for all of us and definitely not a waste of time.

    That does it!

Oh, Jed, that's a tough one because I love the vintage Maytags as well--stately, rugged, and very dependable. Now I'm torn. LOL! I think what I love so much about the old Kenmores/Whirlpools is the unique spray pattern that comes out of the fill flume and, most of all, the sounds. That...

    That does it!

After watching Andrew's video of the Whirlpool Mark II electronic control washer, and even though it's March, I might as well do something fun with my hobby in 2010. What I am looking for is a vintage belt-driven Kenmore or Whirlpool washer to be used as a daily driver that's in good working...
