    1971 lady Kenmore washer

John, I'm curious to learn the story of the control panel with 1971 pushbuttons and as Bob noted a 1974 timer setup. Did something catastrophic happen to the original? --Chris

Appliances: The Future is Battery Powered

Reply #30 Louis, I'm still holding out hope for hydrogen for both automobiles (FCEV) and for aircraft. Airbus has several prototypes and Rolls-Royce claims success in testing a hydrogen fueled jet engine last November. Volkswagen appears to have trashed the idea but Hyundai, Toyota and BMW are...

The Future of Builder Grade Dishwashers is Here

I did not expect the GE to perform as well as it had. I am surprised and pleased by how well it does. I almost never pre rinse and I scrape only when there are large-size bits of debris. Except for two instances where an item needed to be rewashed, everything has come out to my satisfaction...

    New Hotpoint Dishwashers

Jerome, that Hotpoint is the sibling to the GE GDF535PGRWW recently installed by my property managers that I posted about. I was gonna link to the post I did two or so months ago, but it seems to have disappeared. You may recall that my first impression was that loading was a taste challenging...

    Bewitched

"...it obviously is just a Maytag HOH dryer."? I'm not 100 certain myself. I recall that Maytag combos circa 1970 had no window in the door making them look like dryers. The washing machine article in a set of encyclopedias the family had in the 70s had a picture of just such a machine with the...

A Royal Restoration - Summer of Love Speed Queens!

That's curious... I've known SQ from this era including my family's 1969 unit to perform an overflow rinse after the wash portion also.

    Unknown KM washer

FINALLY! I get to see this machine once more IRL. This is the machine I have told you all about that a woman who occasionally would babysit me had in her home and was one of my earliest experiences with the operation of a belt drive Whirlpool-built KM. Well after it was replaced and I was an...

    huebsch at the laundromat

I've only ever used the extra rinse option. I'm pleased that the dryers reverse tumble. The laundromat I use has an annoying number of out-of-service units, washers and dryers equally, but my surmise is that it isn't a Heubsch quality problem but that the proprietor is miserly or broke.

    Favourite washing machine memories.

Visiting the home of my grandparents cleaning lady at age 4 when she occasionally babysat me. She had a 1961 Kenmore 110.6104500 with straight vane agitator, speckled gray wash tub, 3 cycles, 1 speed, brush lint filter, 3 water levels. Opening the lid to watch it churning the laundry around and...

    POD 1/14/23 - Blackstone

I seem to recall that this machine was sold mostly in southern states? I'm curious to know how cool down worked in that locked-in wash & wear cycle. My surmise is that it used one of the overflow rinses to cool the laundry before spin... --Chris

Seeing today's beauty reminded me of strolling with an elderly cousin of my grandmother past a laundromat in the late 60s or early 70s and remarking that it was equipped with Westinghouse tumblers. He replied that they were *Bennett* Westinghouse machines. Fifty years later, I decided to...

The Future of Builder Grade Dishwashers is Here

Reply #6 Two months before my replacement (which was one month after I started complaining about the old GE with its detergent drawer stuck closed, rinse aid dispenser stuck open and abusively used lower rack), I saw an Amana box in the dumpster and got all excited. I was very pleased with...
