New Vintage Catalog Website (Sears, JCPenney, Montgomery Ward)

Thank you for the responses. I love the simplicity of the controls and the machines were awesome. The washer with its loud pump and rapid ramp-up spin and of course burp-a-lator agitator. The dryer was amazing with its back-fan that literally blew clothes onto the floor if your opened the...

    Belt drive.

Speaking of Kenmore Agitators… Yes, I would agree the Vari-Flex is great and versatile. And the Roto-Flex is amazing as well. I have had both and currently have a Lady Kenmore with a Penta-Swirl and although it doesn’t look like much, has surprising turnover and cleaning capability as well.

And there they are, in the Montgomery Ward Spring/Summer 1962 catalog on page 918 items “A” and “B”…my Grandma’s Signature set that got me started with this whole washer thing! I’d give my eye-teeth for that set, or at least the washer. I know a couple of you guys out there have a similar...

Pumper to the Rescue! Thanks for sharing — growing up a Montgomery Ward family in rural Northern California, the catalog was always a good source of entertainment!

Beautiful! And your PJs almost match the avocado green! I have the same set in Harvest Gold. Amazing, efficient and quiet machines. Cheers!

Karen Carpenter's Appliances wish you A Merry Christmas

What a tragedy for Karen and it’s hard to hear her joke about the food… Thank you for sharing this. I’ve never seen it before! My brother and I were huge Carpenters fans back in the day. Happy Holidays!

    Westinghouse set. Yay or Nay

Well I don’t know what everyone else thinks, but when I come across a matched set, I’m smitten! Not sure of the vintage of this set…I’d reckon late 80s early 90s? A fun rescue, nevertheless!

    1968 Frigidaire "giraffe" dryer

I just think of the height of the average housewife and reaching up to the control panel. My ex-wife is 4’ 11” and my mother-in-law was only 4’ 10” so wonder how the heck they could have seen and been able to turn the machines on?!

    Just for Laughs…

I spent Thanksgiving with my 93 year old parents and we had a lot of fun going through some old photo albums. I came across this circa 1974 photo of my folks and me on my Grandma’s back porch with her 1960s Montgomery Ward Signature wringer washing machine. We don’t look too happy…maybe it’s...

Mommie Dearest And didn’t our beloved Faye Dunaway/Joan Crawford have two Sears or Whirlpool combos in the famous “we’ll manage” scene in the laundry room?

Differences Between Westinghouse & White Westinghouse Washtub Capacity

And since I haven’t seen this thread in a while, I have to say I do not like the washer’s “lock ‘n spin” feature…difficult to disable.

80's era Maytag Washer and Dryer

And judging by the design of the washer’s agitator, I’m guessing still a coveted belt-drive?

    Heavy Duty Maytag

I love the “heavy duty” badge…but when I compare my 1975 Montgomery Wards Signature heavy duty washer to my 1974 Sears Kenmore with Pentaswirl agitator that also claims it’s heavy duty, we all know who wins the title when it comes to washability between the two..!

    Heavy Duty Maytag

Just ran across this machine in the Sacramento area on Craigslist (no, I’m not going after it, I already have two Maytag sets). Wanted to share because I’ve never seen the “Heavy Duty” label on these before. It looks like a cheap adhesive sticker — wondering if it was sold that way?

    My birth washer

Bradfordwhite, I too, grew up with a ‘62 Frigidaire Custom Deluxe washer and a mid ‘50s BOL Maytag dryer. I always hated the fact that they didn’t match! My folks said that they went in with a couple of the neighbors to purchase the dryer and even though it was housed on my parent’s back...
