Need Help Identifying Appliances/Electronics: Late 1950s

Interesting history on Sparton. (I'm glad to see my assumption that Sparton name came from a contraction of the full company name was right--or, at the very least, a conclusion someone else has made). Interesting, too, that they sold the name and a product line, but not the whole company. That...

    Fare-thee-well oh crock pot mine?

    >I've also heard that newer slow cookers run hotter. I suppose this is a scheme to make them seem not so slow or some other manufacturer rationale. I've heard this, too. I have looked at slow cookers in thrift shops, and I have noted that the watt listing on newer slow cookers seems higher...

Neumaier Hall Implosion (Moorhead State University)

I have to admit that as I watched this video, I entertained myself imagining that it showed the unfortunate result of a malfunctioning still being used to make booze for Friday night's big party. LOL

    General Electric Stereo Console Questions

Tube brand shouldn't matter as long as it's the same type of tube (using that number/letters ID on the tube, such as 6BA6). In the radio era (and maybe when this was made), there might be suggestions on the label saying something like: "For best performance, use nothing but our tubes!" But I've...

    Prepaid cell phone carriers

I've used prepaid for about ten years. It's worked well. But then I hardly ever use the phone. No one in his or her right mind wants to talk to Lord Kenmore. LOL It's probably the best if you look up all the various plan options and see what fits your needs. In your case, the question is data...

Maytag's New Color: Cast Iron Black

To be fair, some people won't care about whether or not the ovens are self cleaning... So many people have impressive kitchens, and yet apparently never do anything more than microwaving a frozen dinner.

    A TV dinner that's really good (?!)

Growing up, frozen dinners were only a "sometimes" thing. And I think usually it was a lunch time thing. Although even my family succumbed in the end to frozen dinners. The last year or so of my mother's life, there were plenty of times when dinner was frozen. Something was on sale, and it...

    A TV dinner that's really good (?!)

I got tired of TV dinners when it reached the point of the transistors being too crunchy, and the CRT being under done... LOL

Is powdered detergent safe for dishes?

I, too, have found a lot of modern dish detergents annoyingly hard to rinse. The worst is when I carefully rinse a French press coffee maker I regularly use. Then, make coffee, and get a slight "note" of detergent in the coffee. Some variety of Palmolive was really problematic.

Maytag's New Color: Cast Iron Black

I like this new black, and I could imagine choosing it. Well, I could imagine choosing it if I could first imagine buying a new appliance (and not just a new appliance, but a higher end appliance)! LOL I have had mixed feelings about the standard black. I like it the best of recently used...

Is powdered detergent safe for dishes?

    >TIME is a resource you don't get back! Very true. This is one argument in my mind for having a dishwasher. It might only take a few minutes a few times a day...but that time adds up... That said... I can't say I'm a fan of the idea of long cycle times. Yes, I've heard the argument it really...

Is powdered detergent safe for dishes?

    >[Microwaves] can bought for $40 (or even less on sale) these days Or how about getting one for about a dollar, like I did? (Admittedly, it was at Goodwill, and a very special sale). But, yes, it's amazing how cheap they can be. That's another gadget I was once cynical about. When I was a...

Is powdered detergent safe for dishes?

I personally hate doing dishes by hand. I'm pretty sure I swore 12 years ago that I'd never, ever live without a dishwasher again...only to be forced to accept living in a place with no dishwasher! That said, I don't think it's crazy preferring to wash dishes by hand. One person's relaxing task...

Is powdered detergent safe for dishes?

As I think of a view out of the window over the kitchen sink, I'm reminded of my childhood home, which had the kitchen window overlook the area where the family dog would be when out doors. How lovely it would be to watch the dog busy taking a dump while one washes dishes... LOL

    POD--10-1-2019 (Sears dryer)

Today's POD is a Kenmore dryer ad that promises the same type of paint on the dryer as a $7,000 car... One reaction, is from the part of me that is fully in 2019, and thus conscious of current pricing, and which thinks a $7,000 car is nothing to get excited about. Except, perhaps, if one could...

    "refinished" vintage console stereos

In general, I've been biased against painting furniture. I suppose part of this is a bias I picked when young from my mother. Although I'm not 100% opposed. It all depends on the situation. I've seen some "upcycling" that involved paint that probably was, overall, a good thing. But the success...

    "refinished" vintage console stereos

I prefer console stereos with the type of finish that God and Maganox originally intended.

Anyone Still Using IE Should Stop - Seriously

    >That's a valid reason, but in no way would I every use Widows as my daily driver. I recognize there are reasons why people might need or want Windows. That said...I (and many, many, many other users) have little to no real need for Windows. Indeed, for a lot of people, who only basically...
