PSA: Reply # versus date & time

Thread replies are numbered sequentially, counting only the replies you can see. So if a participant in a thread is blocked by you and not by me, then we won't see the same reply numbers. Same if a participant is blocked by me and not by you. But we will both see the same date & time in replies...

    Samsung 240 volt Vented Combo!

240V washer? It isn’t clear to me whether the washer part i.e. the heater is 240V. Don’t see heater wattage.

    NEW WASHERS?

240V cold fill vs 120V hot fill You'd need a formula to tell which is faster in a given case. Variables would be cold water temperature, hot water temperature, target water temperature, water volume, and the wattage of the 240V and 120V heaters. The Little Giant, with a super-powerful 240V...

Can Haier really be so cheap?

Every time I rent a current model Toyota there's a set of manuals in the glove compartment, usually still shrink-wrapped.

    IFA 2024

Drum bumps instead of paddles I guess delicate loads will be coddled purely through drum action, not high water levels, since standing water would cause items to float on top and not get moved.

Here we go again. Are we using too much detergent?

Why would detergent mfrs tell us to use too much …when it’s sold by the number of loads in a package? A 113-load box of Tide, say, would be smaller and cost less to make if they lowered the dose. I know that legally speaking it’s sold by weight, but I think number of loads is what most...

8 Reasons Using Liquid Detergent Is Better

Reply 11 In the US there's a laundry product called Clorox 2 Liquid that contains hydrogen peroxide. Being an additive, it gets mixed with liquid detergent at the time of use. Will enzymes in the detergent have time to act before they're deactivated by the hydrogen peroxide in the additive...

Pennies punched through & used in GE appliances as substitute

Reply 1 The pandemic interrupted my habit of spending pennies to keep my change supply trim, because I stopped using cash. I haven't picked it up again, because I realized I don't want to be the old guy making everyone wait while he doles out his pennies, even though I was careful to have them...

    New Detergent Ratings

Freshness We find that hotter water leaves laundry smelling fresher when using unscented detergents.

Dishwasher running out of rinse aid when dispenser is still half full

It's not really costing you any money, just making you fill the dispenser more often. Though more frequent fill-ups may mean more spills which wastes a little rinse agent each time. But it isn't like you can't get half the contents out of each bottle of rinse agent you buy.

    Kenmore/ISE disposal dead?

ISE sink mount The sink mount on the new ISE models, at least the ones I've looked at, have a removable baffle that can go in the dishwasher. That might make it worth the trouble of changing out the old mount.

Wrinkle-free shirts good for 30 washes

Does anyone know what, if any, laundry practices might extend the wrinkle-free performance of such shirts? For example, washing time, water temperature, detergent type, drying temperature?

LG WM3600 cycle times are SLLOOOOWWWWWW.

Reply #4 Bob, if your Duet was 120V, as I assume it was, it got 120V+/- from your home's 208V system. It's the "240V" outlets that are shortchanged by a 208V system. My Little Giant washer has a 5000W heating element, but it only puts out around 3700W on my condo's 208V supply.

Does Anyone Still Use Boil Wash Temps?

Boil wash is good for rescuing neglected articles For example, while cleaning out our house for downsizing we came across a number of sheets and pillowcases that had never been washed properly, and were put aside when they developed yellow stains. They smelled also. A short boil wash, not much...

    Washing bamboo pillowcases

Tried cheap bamboo pillowcases from Amazon Well, it seemed worth trying, so I bought a pair of inexpensive ones. Washed one at 60°C in my Little Giant, and dried at "not-sure", because my recent model Whirlpool dryer doesn't have Low-Medium-High markings, rather a range of choices for each load...

Rotary Microwave- to good to be true?

I got one for my mother. It works fine. There’s no start button, for whatever that indicates. When you close the door after opening it during a cycle, it restarts right away when the door latches. Also, I saw one of these, with the position of the knobs reversed, on an episode of Zelensky’s...

60s-70s Laudromat with FL washers and Closed TL Maytags

Reply #15 My Little Giant with a drain pump has the sluice programs enabled. The printed manual lists their capacity as "max 14.3 lbs (4.0 kg)", while cotton programs' capacity is listed as "max 14.3 lbs (6.5 kg)". So sluice capacity is same as cottons, or 61% of cottons, take your pick.
