    Today's Stove Rescue

VERY cool find! Wish we could've found something that nice to replace our 1969 Frig. Custom Imperial 40" range in our kitchen. We STILL have the 1954 green Figidaire 30" that I assume was orig. to the house. When they remodeled the kitchen and finished the basement, they installed the 30" in the...

1950s GE Stratoliner-Reach For The Stars

Wow, that is a cool GE range... I learned to bake on a turquoise 40" GE prob. earlier 1950's. Some of the burner pushbuttons still lit up when pushed. Hope to find on again someday. Tried to talk my folks into taking that stove with us when we moved from Phoenix, but there was no room in the...

    Hamilton/Frigidaire dryer question

Very Good Point!! Robert, Glad you mentioned the point about checking for frayed wires BEFORE hooking it up to power...Or else, as Phillip, mentioned, you could end with a Elsa Lancaster 'do!! You are the vintage washer/ dryer GOD! So good of you to put so much into this site and help so...

    Hamilton/Frigidaire dryer question

Careful! Brian, Electrician here...Sure doesn't look like a 115 volt; Size and color of the wire suggest it was probably direct wired to the fuse panel for 220/240 volt. Of course, so many did their own "wirin'" back then that almost ANYTHING is possible; folks used whatever was around the...

    POD 12-16-06

Hey, I want the "Magic Minute"; so useful for SO many things! Wonder why it was limited to just one model and just washers! LOL! Actually, do this manually with soiled whites: Put in the bleach and detergent, let it fill to small load, put in the socks, etc. let 'em agitate a few min. Then...

    POD..Youngstown DW

Too cool! Love how this unit is mounted ABOVE the standard counter height...Just seems to be coming back into vogue finally; I've worked on a few custom houses where the DW was mounted higher for easier access. Sure makes sense to me- wasn't aware anyone was doing that in the "fab 50's". Has...

    POD...Questions...

Curious, was this the last year for slant front Westinghouse washers? Looks like they took a step or two backwards from the Program Computer model of a few years before! Seems like we see more of the earlier models functional on this site; quality go down in the 60's? Had a late 70's...

POD...and thermostat questions on 40" Frigidare

Thanks! Thanks folks for the ideas...Breaker is not tripped. Hadn't thought to check the voltage at the oulet, but should have- I am an electrician!! It is possible that the wire coming into the outlet, or the cord is not making good contact- something could be loose. Tend to think not though...

POD...and thermostat questions on 40" Frigidare

What a GREAT GE stove!!! Late 50's, early 60's? Wish I had a mint one to solve my problem! Wonder when GE stopped the pushbutton controls? I've seen a few in white or coppertone that I guess to be late 60's early 70's... OK..now for a question..Have a 40" 1969 Frigidare Custom Imperial range...

    Kenmore Elite/Bosch dishwasher...Questions...

So far, so good with ours...seems like we can load it a bit more tightly than our old GE/Kenmore and it still gets the dishes sparkling. Seems to dry them pretty well too- if we leave the door closed for awhile after the cycle is complete. REALLY appreciating how quiet it is.

    My new dishwasher!!

AEG and Bosch-Same design/ manufacturer? After looking at your photos, I am amazed how much your DW resembles our new Kenmore Elite( made by Bosch) inside and out-subtle differences, but the racks are basically the same, as is the interior and the control panel- though we have round bottons...

    Kenmore Elite/Bosch dishwasher...Questions...

Bob, Thanks! I didn't think that the center tower had anything to do with the depth; just commenting that since the Bosch lacked one, there was almost as much rack space despite it being shallower. We are running hot water before turning it on. Good to know about the clay caused by...
