Is this a Vintage Westinghouse Microwave???

So, you're going to scrap it?? I don't know- that looks to cool to scrap for a couple of parts. There's nothing that can be subtituted for the parts you need? Keith

Avocado Green Well, that answers something I was wondering about just the other day. Was talking with mom about the washer and dryer that they would have bought presumably when they bought the house in 1968. She was reasonably certain that they would have been Kenmore, and that they were...

Is this a Vintage Westinghouse Microwave???

And the window screen Certainly makes me think Microwave Oven. Very cool find! Keith

GE Wall Mount Refrigerator & Freezer

Old Stuff But John, that's the sort of thing that makes me like old stuff even more. I like the way the engineers thought back then. I love the quality of old stuff. So, for me, I like stuff as original as possible. Sure, it may use a few more watts, and that's ok. I enjoy the original sounds...

GE Wall Mount Refrigerator & Freezer

Or maybe... They were using the compressor as a phase converter by taking a wee bit of power from the normally unused start winding to provide two phase power to the fan motor, thus avoiding the need for shading coils (inefficient) or a capacitor. Keith

Lots of questions! I keep reading about suds saver and whatnot. Does this pump the water into the adjacent laundry basin (with plug in drain!), and then pump it back in for the next load? Why would they lower the spin speed? Wouldn't you always want the clothes to come out as dry as possible...

GE Wall Mount Refrigerator & Freezer

Interesting! I would love to see a schematic of that!

GE Wall Mount Refrigerator & Freezer

Hi John, I admit I am guessing, only since it seems like most people would scrap a refrigerator if it needed work as major as a compressor change. If the original is still present, and were to fail at a later date, I envision myself cutting it open and rebuilding it. Originality is really...

GE Wall Mount Refrigerator & Freezer

I have to agree with all of your points. I guess I just like these since I've not seen many (and none in person). I really have nowhere to put one at the moment, but it is good to know that they usually can be had for less money. As for style, I like the era, but really prefer even older...

GE Wall Mount Refrigerator & Freezer

I was just cruising CL and found THIS! Oh how I wish I had more money and more space! I'm just glad it's not Turquoise, or I'd REALLY be going nuts! My favorite part is that it evidently still has it's ORIGINAL compressor. Here are the photos from the ad too. Keith...

Heat without tumble? How does that work?? Said right in the ad that that was one of the operating modes for the dryer! I wonder what the BTU/hr input was on the water heater to "never" run out? I love the rust free water "guaranteed for years", but never mentioned how MANY years. :) Keith

So, can I really cram one more vintage washer into the Ogden Laundry?

Overflow rinse What a super cool machine! I would LOVE to have something like that. I had not yet heard of an overflow rinse. Does that effectively float the suds up off of the clothes? Happy Fourth to all of the Americans here today. :) Keith

When were these introduced? The ad looks ~'70's? We had a machine with one of these- a Kenmore, I believe- that I would have called modern. This would have been less than ten years ago, though I don't know how old the machine was when we got it. At the time I *assumed* that it was a fairly new...

Love that Window! I enjoy watching my laundry so much that I leave the lid up on mine ('84 Whirlpool) all of the time, with a clothespin in the switch. :) Keith

    Mexican Made EASY Golden Line

Isn't that like a Maytag, how it drains and spins at the same time?

    Whirlpool LA5530XKN2, No Spin

Today I ran three 14 minute loads, back to back. Evidently the leak is not serious enough to allow water to run out from under the machine (the floor slopes toward the front). I am going to run it for now, until I can clear enough space in the garage to work on it. Keith

    Whirlpool LA5530XKN2, No Spin

Up And Running! But discovered a water leak I ended up not switching out the plungers as the pins holding the old ones in are rivets, and so not easily removed. They look to be in excellent condition, so I'll just hang on to the new ones for future reference. I took a couple of films of the...

    Whirlpool LA5530XKN2, No Spin

Made in USA parts Ordered Thanks Gordon, I just ordered an FSP kit, including the plungers and all. Package says made in USA on it. :) I'll see about getting a video of it working when it's all done. Thanks again, Keith

    Whirlpool LA5530XKN2, No Spin

Found it: Failed Solenoid Thanks again all. Gordon, I had forgotten all about the lid switch, but was reminded when I discovered the schematic on the access panel that DADoES mentioned, on the back of the machine. The lid switch checks out good. The schematic also helped me figure out which...

    Whirlpool LA5530XKN2, No Spin

Hello guys, I'm back with the 1982 Whirlpool built in '84, as seen here: But this time with a problem. Everything works as normal, except for spin, on either regular or delicate. The motor continues to run, the transmission just doesn't engage spin. For what it's worth, this happened while...
