Working Harvest Gold GE Refrigerator becoming available

Hello All, A friend of my mom's is replacing her kitchen appliances, including the mentioned refrigerator. It is guessed to be around 40 years old. It's going to be hauled off by the appliance delivery men on the 19th unless someone wants to pick it up that morning. It's located in...

MayTag Washer selector switch, late vs. early?

Yes! Save it! Every time a good oldie is destroyed and replaced by a modern junker there is one fewer good oldie in the world! And, eventually, there are no longer enough of them to go around. :( Keith

NW Pink '62 Frigidaire Imperial FF Fridge $100 (Sacramento)

I guess I come from a different perspective.... Being that I perform all of my own work. It certainly isn't profitable, it's a labor of love. I feel compelled to save as much of the good old stuff as possible. I'm grateful that it is still here, and, even though I have no children, I figure...

NW Pink '62 Frigidaire Imperial FF Fridge $100 (Sacramento)

Repairability.... I feel that most anything can be repaired on these, though, to me, having as much original, especially the original compressor, is a big selling point. Aside from the loss of originality, a modern compressor likely wouldn't last as long as the well-made original, even with a...

Vintage Large Sears Coldspot Freezer, Free

It is with much regret that I must report that I have discovered a leak in a refrigerant line in this freezer that I had formerly offered for sale. I actually have a buyer lined up, through Craigslist, coming to get it tomorrow, but now I will have to tell them not to bother. It's not out of...

Broken Maytag End Of Cycle Bell Striker

Make one? Out of metal? Without seeing it, it's difficult for me to say, but seems like the thing to do to ensure that it lasts. Keith

    The Magic of Maytag

    Help! Maytag LA712! STINKS!!!!!

Not everything is always as it seems.... I'm really sorry about this, but, as it happens, the Maytag was not the source of the stink. Instead it's move into the washroom and it's first use just so happened to perfectly coincide with the stinking of a forgotten bucket of dirty water. Basically...

    Help! Maytag LA712! STINKS!!!!!

Detergent Ignorance I presume that the best detergent is selected based on the quantity and type of ingredients, and perhaps the absence of some undesirable ones? So is there a list of things to watch for? And to watch out for lol? Obviously the ads will have you believe they're all the best...

    Help! Maytag LA712! STINKS!!!!!

Thanks guys! Lint Filter it is! It's funny, but last night when I was actually using the machine for the first time, I surmised that it must send the lint down the drain, since it *obviously* (lol) didn't have a lint filter like the Whirlpool that I've known since it was new in 1984. Clever, I...

    Help! Maytag LA712! STINKS!!!!!

To quickly recap, this is the washer I got from my friend a while back, that would not transition from agitate to spin. I fixed the timer, then it sat outside for a while. Yesterday I moved it into the laundry room, and noticed that it did have somewhat of an odor to it, but figured running it...

    missed this one!

Perilex Plugs and Sockets Nice score on those machines... Being in the US though, my curiosity has been piqued about these connectors. Would the voltage on those be 240/416? I had not previously heard of three phase current in a residential setting. How delightfully convenient! Keith

That was fantastic!! Thanks so much for posting the link! Thanks to all who contributed as well. I had missed the show, though mom said she recorded it, I hadn't been over there to see it yet :) Now I'm really looking forward to the first wash in I can attend :) Keith

1984 Maytag AND Whirlpool Washers. At the same time!

LA712 Is the model. It has the warm rinse option, as well as the slow wash, fast spin option. I ended up having to take several short films due to the iphone lol. One of them does have a good shot of the control panel though. I'll add them as I get them uploaded. Thanks, Keith

1984 Maytag AND Whirlpool Washers. At the same time!

This is my first full test run of the Maytag since I got it and repaired the timer. I stuffed it into my laundry room, ran some supply hoses, ran a drain hose out to the lawn, and away we go! Two at once! I'm developing an overall preference for one verses the other, though I appreciate some...

    Strange Vintage GE Fan0

Balancing fan blades.... I balance them experimentally by adding weight, like a paper clip or two near the hub. Try each blade in turn, then try more or less weight, and so on. Cheesy, sure, but I don't like vibrating fans lol :) Keith
