The poor thing :( Man the things some people do to high quality old stuff, eh? Keith

    Hotpoint/Hoover dryers' airflow designs

Lint Screen Location Until I picked up a 1971 Maytag DE806, I did not realize that some dryers had the lint screen in the back. The light bulb is behind it too :) My daily driver '84 Whirlpool has the top one, and I'm running a '90's Kenmore at my facility that has it inside in the front...

Vintage GE Electric Dryer Late 50's-Early 60's - $500 (Royal Oak)

Shoes in the dryer.... I can remember my mom doing this when I was a kid. Don't know why she didn't just put them outside. Anyway, they'd invariably knock the door open. So she took to leaning a chair against the door lol. Love the double hinged door in that ad! Keith

    Poor Old Coin Op :(

Certainly looks unloved.... And seller was advertising as scrap but also said it worked. I don't understand some people. I recently picked up, for free, a neat old Packard Bell "Stereophonic" AM FM radio / phonograph console- all vacuum tubes- unit that the guy was "gutting". Instead of...

Vintage GE Electric Dryer Late 50's-Early 60's - $500 (Royal Oak)

I love foot pedals.... Or at least the idea of them. I don't yet own any equipment so equipped. But I tried a Monitor Top fridge with a foot pedal once, and I LOVED it :) I also love dryer doors that open down instead of to the side, so I don't drop my clean clothes on the floor lol. And...

    Avocado Green Gas cook top

If I had only known.... My mom's house was built in '68, but came with an electric cooktop. My mom hated that electric cooktop so my dad installed a gas line and an Avocado Green (to match everything else) gas cooktop, probably in '69. I grew up with that cooktop. In '04 I remodeled my mom's...

Very Large Sears Coldspot Freezer- for sale $100

1968 Forgot to add that bit of detail. It's difficult to read, but it appears to have an October 1968 date stamped onto the schematic. Keith

Very Large Sears Coldspot Freezer- for sale $100

I am just so short on both space and money, so it's time to pare down. Many may recall that I salvaged this freezer fairly recently from the same place I got the 1971 Maytag dryer. It took quite some doing to get it out of the house that it was in, but I was so excited to get this freezer...

Maytag A606 sometimes doesn't spin without help

But the large pulley is turning Even though the drum is not. Wouldn't that mean that something is wrong between the large pulley and the drum? Like a failed overrunning clutch? Keith

Hoover New Wave Washer Dryer A8612

Combination Washer / Dryers I've always had a fondness for them! But never used one to see how well they might perform. Hopefully the electronics in that one have not been damaged by being in the weather all that time. Unless faulty electronics are why it's there? Well for free, you've...

Old Washing Machines Are Less Efficient and Consume More Energy

My Mom has a Front Loader That's why I have her nice '80's Whirlpool :) I don't *feel* like her front loader gets clothes very clean, but admit that, of course, *feel* is very unscientific :) She likes it, so that's what matters. I do like the rippin' fast spin speed it can do. The clothes...

Old Washing Machines Are Less Efficient and Consume More Energy

Ours is a Special Group So naturally we are going to be extra defensive about our beloved vintage machines :) We are unusual in as much as we see and appreciate the quality in both design and execution of most things of the past. While most will holler the mantra of "dated", we appreciate...

Old Washing Machines Are Less Efficient and Consume More Energy

Yes, or the Energy and other resources wasted Constantly scrapping those machines and building new ones. *Recycling*, while better than the landfill, is a very wasteful process. Keith

    1971 Maytag DE806

HAMs Hi Phil, No problem, I love the "thread drift" feature of this forum! My call is KE6LRZ. If I remember correctly I was licensed around '94. I don't know how to post more than one film at a time, so here's one more. Laundry in the dark was never so much fun!! Keith...

    1971 Maytag DE806

Thank you all! For the constructive, complimentary, and thoughtful replies! When I first got my HAM radio license I was told by a kind old fellow that I should get into radio because of my voice. I had never thought about it, but, of course our voices sound much different from the "inside" :)...

    Cleaning Timer contacts?

Timer Contacts I successfully cleaned up the contacts on a 1984 Maytag that I got for free. I folded a small piece of sandpaper into a long, narrow strip that was able to reach down in between the contacts. No idea if that might work on yours though, but it did work on mine. Good Luck! Keith
