Now I've seen it all... NSFW

Now if this weren't a family friendly forum, I'm sure we could all chime in with our own personal "Ricky" story...with or without the understanding Mom. As I recall, my step-mom walked in and...never you mind...

    You know you're old when........

DON'T PULL THE ROD!! As a school librarian, I feel obligated to have to say, don't pull that rod out...especially in the library in the presence of children! I've been a librarian (we're now called "Media Specialists") for 15 years, and I have NEVER once typed a catalog card! Thank Goddess for...

Whole-house Air Cleaners for the HVAC System.

I have one of those Honeywell Media filters...it's the non-electronic air cleaner. It's a 4" filter that fits in the ductwork, and is quite easy to change. I can't say that our air is any "cleaner", but with three dogs (shedders, all) I wasn't expecting miracles. The husbear groans that he dusts...

Why doesn't (most) chlorine bleach disinfect?

Well, mine is "Citrus scent" Kroger EDL bleach, and the label says nothing about disinfecting or germ killing. I re-read the entire label, and there is no SHC % content that I can find. I'll buy Clorox next time!

Why doesn't (most) chlorine bleach disinfect?

Whilst washing a load of whites, I looked at the label of the Kroger equivalent brand of chlorine bleach I use ("Everyday Living" brand), and I noticed (much to my surprise and dismay) that NO WHERE on the label are the words "disinfecting" or "sanitizing". It also does not state anywhere what...

    Weird Miele DW oversudsing incident..

Perhaps it is the fault of the rinse agent. In the US, Elactrasol 2-in-one tabs don't have rinse agent in them, I believe the rinse agent is a part of the "3-in-1 product". The 2-in-1 Gelpacks have rinse agent in them, but I don't use them. I didn't just refill the dispenser, and had been using...

    Weird Miele DW oversudsing incident..

Detectives, Last night I ran a perfectly normal load in my Miele DW. Used one Electrasol 2-in-1 tab on a (previously "rinse and hold") load and used the "Economy" cycle. I was at the other end of the kitchen folding laundry as the machine was completing it's cycle. I had gotten used to the...

    New Coffee Maker

Just realized that Hamilton Beach bought Procter Silex, hence the label change. Oh well, it's that coffeemaker.

    New Coffee Maker

I bought a Procter-Silex "Brewstation Deluxe" ($80.00) from Wal-Mart Online last week, and had my first cup from it this morning. It has a few more bells and whistles than the plain-Jane P-S Brewstation it replaced, and I think it makes a decent cup of coffee (or 12), and there is no glass...

Broken shock in Frigidaire FL- Can I fix?

Well, I dithered and dithered, and called the repairman. He charged me $50.00 for the ($25.00 pair of) shocks, and another $150.00 to install them. Sigh...But, a new Frigidaire (with heater) would be $900.00 and a new Miele is $1600.00. With what I've put into it with a 3 year service contract...

    New Miele Dishwasher 2

You did WELL to get that machine at that price! I paid $1,250.00 USD for my (display model) Premiere Plus, and the retail price for it was $2,395.00 USD! You will, I hope love the machine as I do mine. Use Miele tabs, and you can't go wrong!

Any One Use Pressure Cookers ?

Helicaldrive... Steve (Helicaldrive), The next time you're at that store, if you wouldn't mind, please check for me to see what the price on that avocado Presto unit is! If it's not outrageous, I just might ask you to snatch it up for me, or I can ask my sister in St. Louis to get it if she's...

Broken shock in Frigidaire FL- Can I fix?

I take it that the tapered part of the nut is the grease-filled back side of the nut not seen in my photos...oh well, grease, lube, it's all the same thing. I'll pull the washer back out and see what I can do. Is this a "squeeze it with pliers" thing, or can I squeeze this with fingers and get...

    Frigidaire Affinity Front Loader

Here's a link to the PDF from Sears describing the units - I wish they got hotter on the sanitary cycle like the 170 F Bosch unit does! http://download.sears.com/misc/EMA190Affinity.pdf

Broken shock in Frigidaire FL- Can I fix?

Here's a close-up of the offending nut (slightly out-of-focus): what's the purpose in the slit in this?

Broken shock in Frigidaire FL- Can I fix?

And the "poor victim": the broken shock is the right-side unit. What I can't figure out is how to remove the plastic nut (it has a slit in it) that holds the rest of the shock to the bottom of the tub. There is a similar nut holding the shock to the bottom of the base pan. I've tried pulling and...

Broken shock in Frigidaire FL- Can I fix?

OK. Upon pulling the beast out and opening up the back, I discovered the culprit:

Broken shock in Frigidaire FL- Can I fix?

Upon taking a large load of clothes out of the Frididaire today, I noticed that there was a lot of side-to-side "shimmy" to the basket that I knew shouldn't be there. I removed the top and shined a flashlight down the left side, and sure enough the shock (strut?) that stabilizes the basket had...
