    Cavalcade of Food updates

Store rooms Since it was a variety store, there are two good-sized store rooms behind the sales floor area. I'm still opening boxes, and trying to move things out to the front as I go along. I'm planning on turning one of the storerooms into a service and restoration area.

Appliance display The people who owned the Ben Franklin left all the fixtures in the store. They were old (the last time the store was "remodeled" was in 1964!) and at first I didn't know what I would do with them all. Thank goodness they left them! I've used many of them to divide the store...

Cookbook Library Like many here, I collect cookbooks (I don't think I have nearly as many as Hans!!) and I wanted to get them all in one place. They start about 1880 and go up to about 1978. I've got much of my inspiration for Cavalcade recipes from going through these books. In addition, I've...

    Cavalcade of Food updates

Cavalcade Kitchen Studio The Cavalcade Kitchen Studio is going in the back corner of the store. I've designed it so that I can have tables and chairs on one side so we can do cooking classes, demonstrations or have a live audience when we record Cavalcade episodes. Of course, there was a ton of...

    Cavalcade of Food updates

Display windows at Cavalcade The front of the building is all glass windows. The first thing I did was build display platforms. Since it is one of the largest storefronts downtown, I didn't want the building to look empty and unattractive. For the past year, I have been putting up displays...

    Cavalcade of Food updates

Hi everyone. We haven't posted any new Cavalcade of Food episodes for a few months, which I usually share here, as I've been spending most of my free time working on a commercial building I purchased a year ago with the intent on housing my collection of large and small appliances, cookbooks...

Advice needed: KDS-57A dishwasher leaking on wash cycle

OK - thanks for the instruction. I'll give it a test and see if it is the valve. I wasn't aware it was missing these anti-splash clips. How many are there and is this a part I could find online or from some other source? Thanks!

Advice needed: KDS-57A dishwasher leaking on wash cycle

Thanks, John. When the water discharged it didn't look very sudsy. I will run it again and look at the water level. If the water is overflowing the bottom of the dishwasher is there a way to un-stick the inlet valve?

Advice needed: KDS-57A dishwasher leaking on wash cycle

Friends, I need some help and advice on my Kitchen Aid KDS-57A portable dishwasher. I purchased this a number of years ago and never ran it until this past weekend. Before running for the first time, I put a couple gallons of hot water inside and closed the door and let it sit for 2+ hours...

    Easy Baked Macaroni and Cheese

Oh Eddie that looks so yummy!! Especially on these cold Michigan evenings, your recipe will hit the spot. I've tried any number of mac and cheese recipes over the years and some are either too fussy and complicated or produce a fairly dried-out casserole. Yours looks great - thanks for sharing!

I made our favorite fruit cake

Hans - That fruitcake looks wonderful! If I have the time, I'd love to try Lil's recipe! My mom and grandma always made fruitcake the weekend after Thanksgiving. After they cooled - one recipe made for loaf-sized cakes - they would soak cheesecloth in rum or brandy and then wrap it around the...

    Lemon Custard Pudding Cakes

This is an old Betty Crocker - Gold Medal Flour recipe. So easy and so good. I've made these a half-dozen times since this episode, and people go crazy for them. I think so many people just delight in flavor of lemon...a perfect after-dinner topper!

    A visit with Hans Craig!!

WOW!! I paid Hans and Donald a visit a few years ago when they were still at their other home, and while it was a sight to behold then....I think the collection has at least doubled!! Incredible! Thanks for sharing your visit to Mocksville! Hans - guess I'll have to venture down there again and...

    Homemade Chicken Soup

Eddie!! Now that is a pot of chicken soup!! Looks so yummy and comforting...just what we need on the cold Michigan morning! Thanks for sharing the recipe!

    Homemade BBQ Sauce

Thanks, Joe! Glad to be in the mix! HANS - I love the recipe you have for the sauce, especially because it calls for a "handful" of the seasonings! I'll probably cut the recipe down by 3/4 and give it a try...it would take me the rest of my days to use 3 gallons of sauce!! As I recall, the...

    Homemade BBQ Sauce

For those who have asked me about recipe videos, I've been so far behind this year in posting things. Earlier this year I purchased a commercial building to house and showcase my collection of appliances, typewriters, housewares, radios/hi-fi's, and other stuff I'd been storing. While it's been...
