    Adopted another range

Well, it's always been hard for me to say no to a pretty face. This has caused me all kinds of grief throughout my life ;-) Here is a refugee from an estate sale that I hauled home on Sunday. I don't have a lot of self-cleaners in my collection, but this one was so clean and nice looking, I...

    Osterizer Blenders

I'm not sure if this is the case with other blenders, but vintage Oster blenders have a blade mechanism and a screw collar that will also work on any standard Mason jar. I have found this very handy for a number of tasks (I always have extra canning jars around) where I can blend, chop, etc...

    Go get it, gents!

Congrats! That's a beauty! And it looks very similar to my daily driver so I'm wondering if they are from the same period. Do you know what year yours was made? Here's mine:

    Salted butter or not?

I generally use unsalted butter for cooking and baking. On the table, however, it is always salted butter. The salt really brings out the flavor of the butter, so when you are eating the butter on bread or a baked potato or or something else where you want to taste the butter, i like the flavor...

    Meet the HORTONS!

Congratulations, Robert!! Rare finds indeed! And they are beautiful! Watching the video, the machine seemed relatively quiet. I was expecting it to be louder. So glad you have added these to your collection! Living washer history!

Simpler Times - Fantastic Voice and ....We've Only Just Begun

Karen Carpenter had a voice that only comes along once in a generation - a voice so natural and pure that it pulls you into the song. So many younger people have never heard the voices of singers from the 70's or earlier. When I was young, I had my own music but was always aware of my parent's...

    Hudson refrigerator

Yes - this was sold through J.L. Hudson's in Detroit. They had Hudson branded refrigerators, ranges, and radio/TV/Hi-Fi units. Funny, I just came across a Hudson gas range for sale yesterday. https://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/app/d/detroit-vintage-hudson-stove/7186080218.html

    Cooking Carrots

I generally either steam carrots and then take them out of the steamer when they are just tender and season. Or just wash them - no need to peel - cut off the ends and then cut carrot into big chunks. Put in a bowl, drizzle a little olive oil on them, give them a good sprinkle of salt and...

48 Vintage Photos Show What Kitchens Were Like in the 1960s

Al, That was wonderful! Reminded me of so many family parties growing up. I notice that in many photos, there was a radio in the shot. Seems like many people had a radio in the kitchen - I know we did. It was a constant companion with local news and information and great music, too.

    Westinghouse Electric Range D64-47

Your oven should be able to use a standard cookie sheet/baking sheet. Measure the depth to be sure, but as John mentioned you don't want the sheet to extend all the way to the walls of the oven as it will prevent proper heat circulation. There should be an inch or two at minimum on all sides...

    Westinghouse Electric Range D64-47

That's a beautiful old Westinghouse range! It has the Tel-A-Glance switches for the burners. It looks like the front right burner was replaced somewhere along the line with a Radiantube element, which was used on Frigidaire ranges and a few other brands. Enjoy!

    Eisenhower’s birthday cake

Austin! Your cake looks incredible! The 7-minute frosting always takes me 10 minutes! Maybe my mixer isn't as fast, but I find to get the frosting to the right firmness it takes a couple extra minutes. Hope the cake tasted as great as it looked! So glad you gave the recipe a try! Thanks!!

A look at electric roaster ovens

Here’s some of the electric roasters in the collection at Cavalcade. I always loved collecting these, I just wish they didn’t take up so much space!

    Antique store finds

Great finds! That Nesco is a nice one. I have the same model and use it for all kinds of things - does a good job with smaller roasts, chickens, or I've made lots of baked beans in it, also. Enjoy your treasures!!
