Awrey brand baked goods from Detroit

Was just at the Awrey Bakery thrift store (which is attached to the factory) last week. Got a dozen cheese danishes for $2.99! The factory is quite large, actually. It's a big operation located on Farmington Rd. between Plymouth Rd. and Schoolcraft in Livonia. They still turn out the Long-John...

Patrick, That is a real beauty! I have a Thrifty 30 from 1954 and it is one of my favorites, and it bakes things beautifully. You will enjoy this stove. You did a great job cleaning it up - it shines like new! Enjoy!

    Countertops: Linoleum or Formica?

Sarah, I thought about linoleum, as I really do like the look of it, but I was only going to do these counters once in my lifetime, and I was unconvinced of linoleum's durability long-term. Trimming in metal will be wonderful! Given the size of my countertops around the kitchen, this option...

1963-1965 Hotpoint Hallmark Range in 40" Anyone selling?

Allen, Those Hallmarks are beautiful ranges, and I agree, more desirable than a Flair and much harder to find. I've got a 1960 Tappan Fabulous 400 which I also like more than a Flair. It does have a ventilation system, but I haven't used it yet so I can't attest to the kind of job it does.

    Countertops: Linoleum or Formica?

Hands down Formica Sarah, I recently built a kitchen and looked at all kinds of options. No material is perfect in every situation, but for durability, ease of installation, and options of designs, Formica (mine is actually WilsonArt laminate) was the best possible choice. Here are some of...

Hans- Here are the twin 1964 Thermo Pride furnaces that heat the Cavalcade building. For as big as they are they are very quiet !

    Cavalcade of Food updates

JOE- LOL! I did buy a new camera (and lights and microphone) for the kitchen studio. While it isn't quite as old as a Kodak Brownie, you will laugh when you see the camera we have been using all these years. The same one since we started in 2011! Now whether or not Ralph will be able to...

Anyone have classic cars ready for Summer cruising?

So many beautiful cars!! I didn't realize we had so many car collectors here - how wonderful to see! I hope you all get a chance to get those beauties out on the road this summer! Here's mine - a 1964 Dodge 440 4-door sedan. Not a particular special car, although 1964 was Dodge's 50th...

Furnace at an estate sale this morning

Hans, Next time I'm there, I'll take a photo of the two Thermo-Pride gas furnaces in the basement of Cavalcade. They were installed when the building was completed "remodeled" - in 1964!! They are beasts but heat that building like you wouldn't believe!

    Cavalcade of Food updates

Thank You All! I appreciate all the kind words and encouragement - there have been moments along the way when I wondered if I had finally gone out of my mind with my idea. As with most projects, they take longer, are more complicated and always over the budget of when you first start out. But...

    Cavalcade of Food updates

Thanks Eddie! It’s been an adventure for us for sure but lots of fun. These old small towns are really struggling so I’m hoping Cavalcade might give folks a reason to come into town once in a while. Thanks Lawrence! The walls are pegboard floor to ceiling! It’s everywhere - this was how they...
