    Canned Tuna Without Soy

Agreed. I agree, but some of it is 'what is considered safe or not?' *I* think overconsumption of soy is bad, but soy is on the "GRAS" list (Generally Recognized as Safe). I do believe that most of what governmental stuff is being done as part of the oversight process is so diluted as to be...

    Canned Tuna Without Soy

food sensitivities I'm dairy free. Wifey is gluten, soy, dairy, egg, fowl, citrus, and other things free. There is never a time I don't read labels carefully. But you know something? I think it is healthier that way. A PITA? Yes. Better for me ? Yes. It's worth it to me :)

Betty Crocker Downsizes Cake Mixes To 15.25 oz.

the most lucid explanation I've seen.. ...for why we use cup measures in the USA (and Canada? I don't know) is that, being frontier societies, scales and weights were heavy, and expensive. So folks used a 'teacup' for a measure. This evolved into our 8 ounce cup. Logical, thought I.

Betty Crocker Downsizes Cake Mixes To 15.25 oz.

saving time making cakes from scratch If you want to save time making cakes from scratch, get yourself a digital kitchen scale and WEIGH the flour, sugar, etc. Obviously you'll need a cookbook that uses weights, such as The Cake Bible that Laundress mentioned or something Euro like _Delia...

Who is afraid of aluminum cookware!

i'm to the point where I don't want to use anything When I started cooking in pyroceram pots, particularly vegetables, I realized how much ANY metal flavors food. I'm at the point where except for eggs, which I fry in an iron skillet, I don't want to use anything but old corningware or...

    Dishmaster faucets

spare parts Spare parts are easily available from Dishmaster themselves. I have found the folks there to be very nice, I talked to them over the telephone a few times. One thing I've noticed in the last few days: I have an automatic dishwasher. Yet occasionally there's one thing - like...

paczki So funny, because this is something I actually a) know what it is and b) know how to pronounce BECAUSE when I lived in western Massachusetts, the Big Y supermarket chain used to advertise them. LOL! Large Polish-American population in the area.

    New dishwasher advice........

repair records Regarding CR, their repair records are based on customer surveys, which means 'the customer called to complain it didn't work.' When you do use a new technology, sometimes you find that it doesn't work the way you expect it. With dishwashers without drying cycles, folks often...

    New dishwasher advice........

Quiet dishwashers don't have grinders. Quiet dishwashers don't have grinders and you do have to clean the filter. I like the quiet better, myself. But not everyone feels that way. I have a (full size) Bosch and think it's dandy. I was going to get a Miele but at 200% of the price of the...

NYY Article on Using Cold Water For Laundry

gotcha I couldn't remember. I DO wash in pure soap (sometimes). In any case, it isn't really harsh...and it does seem to clean well. (Their bar soap can't be beat either).

NYY Article on Using Cold Water For Laundry

The question I have is... ...what is the environmental impact of these detergents? Is there more impact from the brighteners, the enzymes, and the proprietary other items, than my Calben pure soap detergent ( which I think is soap and asking soda) that gets clothes really clean if you wash...

    Products by Corning?

probably early 1970s Take a look at this: http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1873&dat=19720408&id=d78hAAAAIBAJ&sjid=NJ0FAAAAIBAJ&pg=3102,2466790 If that was introduced in 1972, I dunno..

    Ventless Gas Fireplaces

Check your state laws before you install. They were illegal in Massachusetts, IIRC. If anything happened with it, and it was illegal in your state you might be liable for a criminal charge, and your insurance may not pay for repairs. I don't know what MD laws are on this.

    RIP, Eastman Kodak cameras.

Kodak sounds like AT&T Information Systems I worked for AT&T Information Systems in the 1980s. They were exactly the same way. (SO was Lucent Technologies later on.) It's..wow.
