    Canning?...who does it anymore?

I do... I can tomatoes and red sauce. I grew up with the sights and smells of canning tomatoes, beets, green and yellow string beans, beet relish, pickles, elderberry jelly. Corn, strawberries were frozen. I have limited storage, so that is why I only do the tomatoes. Joe

    New toaster

I hear ya... I still use the Sunbeam toaster that my parents received for their wedding in 1954, and it is still going strong. That being said, the toaster does not like today's thick bagels, and so I went on a search for a toaster that I could drag out when I wanted a bagel or two. The problem...

    About The 1960's

I was a kid then... ...but I remember, and quite fondly: Sunday evening drives in the wide-track Pontiac Catalina to a neighboring town (gasoline was cheap then) for hand-packed ice cream cones. Buying 45 rpm singles of the latest songs by the Beatles or the Monkees (I think that they cost...

    Pollen and....

It's been horrible here... I have never suffered from a spring allergic reaction, but this spring has been different. I couldn't figure out why my head felt like a bowling ball, and my eyes seemed ready to explode - until finding the car covered with pollen one morning before going to work...

    Clothesline Rules!

Butch-inNJ : Yes, the poles that I mentioned hold up the sagging clothes line. Thanks for the tip about Home Depot. I'll be in the city tomorrow morning, and I will make a note to check the HD to see if they still have 'em. whirlcool: Thanks for the tip about the wood poles. Joe

    Clothesline Rules!

Monday's washday here... because it is my day off. If the weather is decent, all whites (sheets and undies) plus the cotton tea towels go out for a good bleaching. Colors in the dryer, as my lines are on poles in full sun. The thought of placing underwear in a place shielded from view never...

why is my stove doing this?

I had that happen once... ...due to a boil over of starchy water from pasta, years ago, when I was in my apartment. Put out the fire and clogged the burner. A pointy round toothpick to the burner holes is all that was needed and the burner was back in business. Perhaps a toothpick will work...

Anybody have a good recipe for Potato Salad??

I've been making this one for years... 6 cups boiled diced potatoes 2 hard-cooked eggs, chopped 1/4 cup chopped celery 3 sweet pickles, diced 1/8 cup chopped onion 1 cup mayonnaise 1 tablespoon dry mustard 1 teaspoon salt Combine potatoes, eggs, celery, pickles and onions. Add salt. Mix...

    Catch of the Day......While Thrifting

...how the dial that determines coffee-strength works. Doesn't it just perk longer for stronger, and for a shorter amount of time for weak, I mean mild? That's what I always thought. Joe

Sunbeam "Radiant Control" T20-C Vintage toaster.

I'm still using the toaster that my parents received when they were married in 1954. The power cord has been replaced a few times, and the toast lowering mechanism gets cranky now and then, but it still works like a charm...and looks great on the counter to boot! Enjoy your "new" one! Joe

How do you wash your pet's dishes?

Don't have a dishwasher... so the bowls go in the sink to be washed by hand, after everything else has been washed and dried. I use fresh kitchen linens every day, so I don't worry too much about "dog spit" all over them. I keep a clean sink too, so don't mind the bowls in the sink all that...
