    Readers Rides 2012

VW = Win Major likes on the VWs. I WISH I still had my 1964 Beetle or my 2003 NB TDI. Now I'm driving a Prius (at least it's cheap on gas) and Helen has a hail-damaged Kia Optima. Looks like a golf ball but perfectly good car underneath.

    1965 Magnavox restoration project

Usually 1/2" mount cartridges has a bracket on each side for the screws. Did you cut them off of that one so you could stick it in the tonearm? Or is that a P-mount? Looks like you did an awesome job of it. In the video, I can't see the cartridge or the weights. All that's noticeable is the...

Turquoise - NOLA - just in time for Mardi Gras

Awesome! Great to see some of that survived all the heat, humidity, and of course, the big K. The house I grew up in, along with its 1965 Modern Maid appliances were completely destroyed.

Magnetic cart and preamp Can you show pictures of how you installed the AT cartridge and preamp in the system? I want to do that in my 1968 system as well and put the (still good) EV ceramic cart in the 73 console. I have an AT p-mount cart that might can fit in the headshell but I'm not...

    S C R E A N ---N A M E S ! And how did you form it ?

JasonL Is short for "Jasonlava" which is my email and Youtube name. The L could also stand for my last name too. The "lava" comes from my love for 60s-70s stuff including LAVA lamps.

    home stereo tape machines

The only tape player I have right now is a built-in Magnavox 8 track player in a 1973 console. The only Ghettoblaster I would want is one of the Sharp VZ-series with the built-in record player.

    Cat Genie

Automatic cat poop cleaners They don't work. We had the Littermaid Ultra or whatever it was (to fit our huge Ragamuffin cat). It worked well for a while but then became a pain in itself to clean and maintain. It finally wound up getting jammed all the time so we went back to scooping every...

    Disco Inferno!

The worst sounding stereo Was my grandparents Sears (after they dropped Silvertone) small console. It had two 4" speakers. Just low midrange, no bass, no treble at all. Had a low end VM turntable in it. Records sounded horrible on it.

    stereo turntables in DD use.

Magnavox end-table This is my current quest, to find an end table unit. That's a later model but it still has a Collaro turntable and EV cartridge. Awesome sound!

    Disco Inferno!

70s sound I didn't mean the high end stuff, indeed those rocked! I'm talking about what every one else had like Lloyds, Soundesign, Electrophonic, etc... The consumer grade stuff.

    stereo turntables in DD use.

1968 Magnavox Astro-Sonic 1000 series French Provincial console with Micromatic turntable 1979 Sanyo TP-1030 with (I hate) Audio Technica AT92E (the E stands for Ear Shredder). So until I get a better cart, the Sanyo is in the closet and the Maggie is spinning the good vibes.

    Disco Inferno!

My cousin had a smaller version. Flashing lights, BSR turntable, two 4" speakers. Typical 70s sound quality

    Disco Inferno!

The sound isn't great on those. My neighbor when I was living in Chalmette had one.

Purex Purk-u-lator I have a vintage one already. Makes the usual perc coffee taste. I'm just too spoiled on French Pressed coffee.

This would go well with the Superman Refrigerator

A mod swinger like myself would be the proud owner of such a groovy sound system. "Oh, Jason, what a fabulous pad you have, pour me a drink from that stereo, baby" Sure thing, two run & cokes from the stereo, and lay down on that plushy heart-shaped bed while I put on some Sinatra. "But...

WiFi Protected Setup (WPS): TURN IT OFF RIGHT NOW!

I've always hated that This is one instance where "Automatic" isn't good. I always figured that "one button" install was a joke. Fortunately, my Westel dsl modem/router doesn't feature it. My previous Linksys did and that was the first thing I turned OFF when I secured the network.
