    bendix history

Why not both? It would be interesting for us all to see both lines if somebody knows their independent histories. Based on the pictures I've seen on this site, we had all the early American models here in Australia. I don't know whether they were made in America and shipped here, or whether...

    Lids open or closed

Hmmm .... FL washer door left open so that seal isn't compressed. Dryer door closed ... but maybe it shoud be open too so that seal isn't compressed. I don't have the room to do that though as the units are installed in a small area with folding doors.

Automatic Sheet folding and Ironing in Hospital Laundry

Absolutely fascinating ... Thanks for the videos. I've never thought about how an industrial laundry might work and this certainly gives an insight. Would these pieces be destined for surgery, or ward work? I noticed they were being handled normally (by unprotected hands) at the end of the...

    Questions for our UK friends.

It's not just the UK - an Oz perspective Here in Australia it seems to have depended on the location and era. I grew up in the late 50's/early 60's. We always had a sepearate laundry area in our home (built 1952). It originally had a gas "copper" for boiling clothes, with a double concrete...

    Asko pair on ATL Craigslist

2001 Models They're late 2001 - or at least that's when I bought my pair. My sister-in-law has recently replaced her 15 year old Asko after using it to wash for a family of three kids from birth upwards. We've both been very happy with ours, so perhaps this one's just not up to scratch.

    Survey Electric or Blade?

Dual-Voltage in our house I'm a blade man, hubby's electric. I found electrics dragged on my face and were uncomfortable. Also didn't shave as close as a blade. I shower first, which softens the beard, then put the foam on as quickly as I can after exiting the shower to retain the moisture...

    Oz Washing Machine Performace Test

"Choice" Magazine "Choice" has been around for a very long time - I used to read their articles on appliances as a child back in the mid '60s. I suspect they've been around longer than that. They test all sorts of products and their reports are often the first place people go when researching...

Another addition: 1972 Westinghouse Laundromat 16 Top Loader

Spelling Bee That's quite interesting really ... who'd have thought the buttons on an old washing machine could so nicely encapsulate the major differences between UK and US English spelling. Programme/Program, Fibre/Fiber and Colour/Color. Now where's an example of the s/z problem? Cheers, Nick

    Over the Top washer ad

What is Fleggaard? It's a Danish version of Amazon, apparently. Link discusses the ad. And I'd prefer my new washer delivered by the boys too! http://www.mahalo.com/Fleggaard_Ad

    Interesting Bendix!

No ... but ... The cabinet reminded me of this machine from the 50's. I found the picture when googling "bendix" one day. I'm fairly certain a family friend had one when I was growing up as well. http://www.powerhousemuseum.com/collection/database/?irn=260519

    A Graveyard of Washing Machines

Where, oh where? Hi Leon, I'm amazed - I didn't think there was still Gold in the Goldfields, but I was wrong. What an amazing place to find nowadays when everybody is so environmentally conscious that things like this have to be carted off to a "correct" disposal station and crushed. As to...

    Kenmore KSM 100 mixer

Petek's Link in Oz ... has been variously seen as a Kenwood or a Breville. Makes me think some factory somewhre in PUC is attaching whatever branding badge you'd like to their machinery ... http://www.breville.com.au/products_results.asp?div=3&cat=3&subcat=4
