    Old fashioned cabinet Dryer

Did they have these anywhere else but Oz? We had a "drying cabinet" in the late 50's/early 60's - no idea what brand; no timer, nothing - just turn it on at the power point and remember to turn it off later. The basic layout was just like this Simpson. A low heat element in the bottom let...

    Secret Life of Washing Machine

Hi everyone, There was a link to this video a few weeks back and I've lost it. Can anybody tell me which forum it was in, or supply the link again? Thanks, Nick

    1972 Toshiba "Electronic Oven"

Memories ... My aunt had this one back in the seventies - the timeframe would match those you've given, Simon. For those wondering, there's no turntable as we have nowadays. Instead there was a rotating metal fan in the roof (there's a cover over it which also has the light, I think). I don't...

1976 Bendix dishwasher help wanted please

A Hoover by another name? That machine looks very similar to a Hoover model sold over here in Australia at about the same period. I have no idea where they were made, but perhaps they exist under a different brand in the UK too. Perhaps it's worth asking a Hoover expert over there.

The 1965 Aussie Kelvinator Orbital is home.

Floods in NSW Hi Leon, Glad to hear you made it through before the major flooding. The situation in northern NSW has been quite grim, with the tales of loss appearing on the news quite a lot now. The machine looks cool too! Nick

    BENDIX

But how did they work? Could somebody explain how these machines did the drying? I used to think they just blew hot air through the drum, like any conventional dryer, but then I started reading that they use cold water to condense the steam onto the outer drum (or something).

    BENDIX

Those machines still exist ... My mother is still using a machine from the series shown in the TV advert. It only has a timer dial (temperature is selected by the position of the timer) and power and half-load buttons. It is indeed very quiet. It's starting to show some rust between the control...

    Coin-op Bendix rescued!

Bendii? Bendices? What is the correct plural of Bendix, I wonder. Your Ford Full looks like it includes the one I grew up with, yet seems to be rarely seen or collected by anyone. Will you be restoring it? Do you know its details, like year/s of manufacture, water options, etc? Looking...

A NEW STANDARD OF ORGAN PLAYING!

Forget ruby shoes ... I want white ones! He has brilliant technique and the best shoes - they are absolutely perfect for playing. They have a nice pointed toe for getting one pedal at a time, and the heel allows easy toe-heel-toe movements up the clavier. You can see him pointing his toe and...

    Congratulations to Our Australian Friends

Time for Change ... Indeed, it's been a very interesting day/night. We're just watching the reviews of everything on the Sunday morning news shows. The PM has been routed from his seat of 33 years, the Liberal (right) party has been trounced by Labor (left). Labor already held all the State...

Rapunzel presents you with 'More Marvellous Aussie Cooking Machines from Yesteryear'

Memories and how .... I had one of the St. George's at the top of the list, and my Aunt still has hers ... 30 years, 40 years on? They were indeed the pride-of-the-fleet in Australian kitchens. The second last gas cooker was iconic in name as well, being known as the "Kooka" (cooker - you have...

    Asko?

Great washers and dryers ... My brother has had the one at the top of thread for 10 years or so and it's still going strong. I've had my pair for six years and am quite happy. The only "complaint" is that I feel it should take in a bit more water on each fill than it does. I usually throw in an...

you gotta see this youtube video!

but on the bright side ... ... in the "related videos" collection I found this link of somebody who's preserving them, rather than abusing them. It's some collection! (and the song's kinda fun too)

    Crazy jap machine!

Actually, this might work ... It's been years since I studied Japanese and I can barely read kana anymore, much less the kanji characters, however ... they mention a "hybrid heat pump". I'm wondering if what they're doing is placing the clothes dryer in the path of the a/c heat exchanger. The...
