Hello. I have disassembled the top pump area until the drain pump impeller (SS cutter style) is exposed. I assume the drain water flows thru the oriface, under the SS plate and then down toward the outlet hose. Can I remove that SS plate or any more items from the top of the DW or do I need...

PS: I haven't used an air gap on the plumbing. The drain hose links to an outlet in the sink drain just below the counter.
