    Gas dryers - visible flame?

The old gas dryers I remember from my college dorm in the '80s didn't have a visible flame when running. Had a glass window on the door to see inside the drum. That's my only experience with gas dryers, as I found they didn't dry particularly well.

Thanks! I didn't recognize it as a Philco. Forgot they made top loaders too.

Does anyone recognize the washer in the ad, or was this a made-up machine from different parts to keep the washer generic for advertising purposes?

    high grade home audio: 1972-82...

This is the first "high end" radio set I remember. I think the Army paid $15k for each of these in the early '90s. Had decent reception, and you could even go secure so the Reds couldn't listen in.

Do Any garbage Disposals Have "Sharp blades"?

Septic tanks Lived in a house in Alabama for a while that was built in 1987 and had a septic tank. Whole development was outside city sewer service. Had a garbage disposal and never had any issues with it. I'm sure all the houses had them too. The house next door even had a swimming pool...

Do Any garbage Disposals Have "Sharp blades"?

"Blade" Sharpeners I remember the AMWAY guy in the 1970s coming by the house and selling us some items that were supposed to both sharpen the "blades" and clean the disposer. They were little round bricks of something hard (no idea what now). Drop one in and turn on the disposer. Made the...

    Tried going shopping

Chinese Trucker Virus War Coming Yeah, get ready for more insanity in the coming months. It would actually be reasonable to start stocking up this time, as oppose to the idiotic panic buying of the past Spring. Strangely enough, SPAM is not in short supply, though it's the perfect thing to...

In Dr. Fauci interview, he has a electric radiant cooktop

I have to disagree. He is actually telling people to "bite the bullet" and cancel their Thanksgiving visits. It's in the news in his own words. And he shouldn't even be saying that, because you know people will do exactly the opposite just because he said not to do it. Honestly, it's no...

In Dr. Fauci interview, he has a electric radiant cooktop

Don't know why he needs one when he's telling people to cancel Thanksgiving. That's not going over well down here.

Speaking of Wheat Cakes, Pancakes, Waffles, Griddle Cakes

I really like buckwheat pancakes best of all, but they are hard to find in the US anymore. Used to be much more popular. Aunt Jemima had a mix but it has disappeared. Potato Pancakes are my second favorite. Panni brand if I can find it, or Manischewitz brand, which is easier to find on the...

Wow, talk about basic. I wonder how these worked compared to the Frigidaire Skinny-Minis.

Mike, that sounds great. Would like to see that recipe and try it.

    Uncle Ben's Rice Pudding

There was a thread here about logo changes that seems to have disappeared, but it got me thinking about Uncle Ben's Rice Pudding. Does anyone remember this stuff? Haven't' seen it since about 2012 or so. Absolutely my favorite rice pudding mix. The next up was Royal brand rice pudding...

Young people overdosing detergent & softener

Oh, THAT'S what you mean by overdosing detergent. I came here expecting to see idiots still eating Tide pods.

Tom, thanks for the explanation on that. Makes sense now.

POD 5-11-2020 WH 1958 Speed Dryer

Looking at the ad, I was a little stumped on how the air circulated in one of these if not being blown through a perforated grill. Was there just a large air duct blowing hot air inside? I've never actually seen a 1950s Westinghouse in real life (sad trombone), so I'm not familiar with how...

    Number PULEAZE! Part Four:

Name That Phone Two for the price of one here. The ad below is for a Frigidaire washer and dryer set from an October 1972 Reader's Digest. On the wall above the washer is a black wall phone from about the 1930's. Does anyone recognize the make? As far as I can tell, it is not a Western...

    Making Beef Stroganoff

No Egg Noodles, Tovarisch! Real Stroganoff is served on potato, not egg noodle. Not sure who ever came up with that idea, but every school cafeteria in America served it that way. The best recipe I have found is from a Russian You-Tuber named Boris. Link attached below. It's in English, but...
