    Spectacular 1959 time capsule

Dishwasher and Ovens Yep, it's a KD-12 all right. And lots of Thermador ovens. I saw this article the other day but got seriously distracted by the birch cabinets kitchen article.

How to remove lacquer from brass lamp

Brasso Try Brasso metal polish first. It's good at removing lacquer from brass without damaging the metal, though it will probably take a lot of polishing to remove the stuff. I remember a LONG time ago having to use it to remove Quartermaster lacquer from new brass insignia in the Army.

    Percolator or drip coffee maker

Time vs Taste My experience has been that electric percolator pots make the best tasting coffee. I have a chrome GE percolator that is about 15 years old that I use occasionally. But time is a factor. Takes a lot longer to prepare and brew a perco pot. If you don't have time to wait to get...

1956 GE wall-mount fridge made the paper

Motor Replacement I saw that article in the Post the other day. I wondered if they had the original motor still when it had to be repaired. It seems the original motors in the wall mounts were bad and most were replaced within 10-20 years of original install. Great to see one of these...

Craftsman Has Now Left the Building

The end coming Saw this article this morning. It looks like Sears may not survive 2017 at this rate. Lampert will be the death of Sears. http://www.businessinsider.com/sears-failing-stores-closing-edward-lampert-bankruptcy-chances-2017-1

    Sears suppliers getting concerned

New Lifeline Sears just picked up $200 million in credit, and could get more. http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-sears-credit-line-20161229-story.html

HOLY COW! A STAINLESS STEEL Kelvinator FoodaRama!

Wow. I've never seen stainless mentioned in any of the old FoodaRama ads, at least not from that early era. Assuming it's not been refinished somehow, this could be really rare. Grab it.

    CUISINART RECALL!

Not what they once were Cuisinart seems to have some serious quality control issues. I bought one of their coffee makers in 2014, and then took it back to the store the same day after seeing fire hazard warnings about their machines online. It's Mr Coffee for me from now on.

The Hotpoint model shown looks TOL. Is/has anyone used this model as a daily driver?

    Sears suppliers getting concerned

Saw this article this morning. Normally I don't recommend Salon, but this seems to be an objective piece. http://www.salon.com/2016/12/09/sears-death-watch-update-is-it-time-to-prepare-an-obit-for-our-least-essential-department-store/

Did the Hotpoint factory ever make GE appliances?

This always seemed odd to me. Hotpoint was part of GE, but was not their sole household appliances distribution arm. Hotpoint and GE were both making the same types of products. Not the same as one division making light bulbs and another making locomotives.

who made the first apartment size dryer in the u.s.?

Westinghouse Spacemates may have been the first dedicated apartment-sized washers and dryers in the US. Started making them in the late 50s.

    Kmart winding down

Defoedude's Description of the chaos in K-mart stores reminds me of what I have seen going on in Target the past few years. Too many retailers are trying to do the most with the least number of folks. It's called a race to the bottom.

    Montgomery Ward Catalog

Wards Stores This is the kind of Ward's store I remember seeing in small towns in the Upper South and Midwest in the 70s/80s. Also, there is a site called Pleasant Family Shopping that has the history Ward's for anyone interested...

    Montgomery Ward Catalog

I don't remember ever seeing a Wards anchor store in a mall where I grew up, but in the 70s/80s the smaller catalog stores with a very small floor space were fairly common. Usually had an auto service bay and sold tires as well. In the spring/summer there would be mowers out in the floor space...

POD 9-9-16 MAYAG AD IS A LIE

No more scrapy handle I see the dryer here has a magnetic latch and not the old handle latch that would eventually work loose and scrape the front of the door. Does anyone know what year the old handle latch went away?
