    need motor switch for maytag

Take the front panel off the LAT8650 and see how much rust is inside it. The flood probably rusted and seized up the lower transmission shaft. I would personally do a full teardown of this machine and clean/repaint all the rust I find. I'm surprised the motor still works at all to be honest...

    need motor switch for maytag

Don’t give up on them yet A smoking motor doesn’t necessarily mean the motor is bad. I remember when I was rebuilding my A512 I bought new cheap belts and they were too tight so the drive belt couldn’t slip when it went into spin. Smoked that motor real good. Put the old belt back on it and...

Rebuilding an early 90s Direct Drive

I have only used the regular cycle. As soon as the new center post seal comes in, I’ll reassemble and test out the other cycles. I’ll try to get a video of the spin.

Maytag set $250 Winter Park FL

Nice matching set. A512 I'm guessing? Like the almond color but I understand why it fell out of style. Excellent buy for any fellow Maytag enthusiasts out there. Will make a fantastic daily driver.

Rebuilding an early 90s Direct Drive

Reply 17 I bought this machine in early July 2022 from my friend's neighbor. The motor is 3349643. Since you say this is a single speed motor, I am now even more confused. It agitates just fine on a normal speed without a noticeable hum, but it isn't spinning anywhere close to 650 rpm from what...

    Maytag Set

I would totally scoop these up in a heartbeat for 200. Problem is, I live on the other side of the country. California is quite a bit too far for me, which is a real shame because every time I see one of my dream washers going up for sale, it's never close enough for me to get it.

    need motor switch for maytag

Reply 16 just loosen the hex head screw on the side and the agitator should pull right out. I don't remember the size of the screw off the top of my head, I think maybe 3/16"? If not then 1/4". I don't understand how a bad belt will allow a spin but not an agitate. What exactly happens when it...

    Maytag Set

One of my dream sets I want to own is a harvest gold Maytag center dial set, but I would much prefer a higher end large capacity model. Of course I would prefer a TOL, but I guess beggars can’t be choosers in this day and age, where I very rarely see a matching center dial gold set in good...

Rebuilding an early 90s Direct Drive

I checked spin speed with the tub both in and out. It was noticeably much slower than my Maytags. The weird noise it was making was a motor hum, which is why I’m convinced it’s just spinning on slow speed. As for why it would be doing that, I have no clue.

Rebuilding an early 90s Direct Drive

The clutch band is very difficult to turn by hand, so it's definitely fine. I think what's going on with the spin is that it's spinning on the low speed, because that low pitched hum is very similar to my Maytag on low speed. It is also noticeably much slower than my Maytag. I don't understand...

Rebuilding an early 90s Direct Drive

Clutch pads Removed the clutch ring and got a couple pictures of the pads. They look good to me. The brake pads and drive assembly also look fine. Mechanically this washer works great, just that slow spin (even with the tub removed) and small leak. Already got a new center post seal on order...

Rebuilding an early 90s Direct Drive

Reply 6 Photo 13 in reply 3 shows a close up of the clutch. This is my first time actually working on a DD so maybe that clutch is more worn out than it looks to me. It’s possible it could be on the low speed, but this washer has no direct speed control dial/buttons, and it’s the final spin on...

1970’s Whirlpool washer and dryer (Brady Bunch)

Oooo that is a very nice set you got there! I've been looking for a nice BD set but I've never seen one for sale in my area, and I lack the ability to travel long distance for one. Lucky find!

Rebuilding an early 90s Direct Drive

A few more pictures I forgot to add earlier These pictures show the newly cleaned outer tub and focus on each of the 3 seals along the drive shaft. I also noticed this thing spins incredibly slow, even for an older washer, and also has this very loud low pitched hum, but only on the spin...

Rebuilding an early 90s Direct Drive

I recently started thread #94062 asking for help removing the inner tub of a Whirlpool Direct Drive. Now that I finally got that out, I felt I should start a more generalized thread of my progress rebuilding this thing. It looks like a BOL model unfortunately, but overall is in fantastic shape...

Need help on a Whirlpool DD

Pictures of the separated tub As promised, here are some pictures of the tubs after I removed it. Not exactly sure how to clean that plastic filter on the inner tub or even how to remove it.

Need help on a Whirlpool DD

Another update Finally got the tub loose!! I just lightly rocked the tub back and forth and discovered it had loosened a little bit, so after pulling a little more it finally came out. Will post pictures tomorrow. Tub looks really good though, little to no rust. Outer tub is pretty filthy...
