    Element Electronics is closing

The book "the Fall of the American Consumer Electronics Industry" is highly illustrative of what happens when a nation with a protectionist industrial policy targets the industry of a free-market nation. (In other words, what started in the early 60s and culminated in the lates 80s with a...

    Today's resto project, early 60s (?) Coldspot

gasket stick Trust me, that gasket was stuck because of the temp. In fact, the "witness marks" existed before the paint had ever been touched. This overheating issue must have been occurring for quite some time prior to my use.

    Today's resto project, early 60s (?) Coldspot

now need help.... When I bought this, I thought it was a frost-full style. I figured the "cycle defrost" was just a gimmick to make it sound modern when it was new. Well whoa is me, it does have a defrost circuit. Ugh. Whatever type of coil goes around the freezer door gets hot as hell. Hot...

    Today's resto project, early 60s (?) Coldspot

well I did promise "after" pics... Ending up needing new paint, as there was some rust under the trim. I also built a 6" platform to get it up to a more useful height. Hot-rodded the interior light with a brighter (less wattage) LED.

    Today's resto project, early 60s (?) Coldspot

freezer It says "Whirlpool Corporation", but I'm guessing it's a Seegar design. Initial cleaning shows it's going to need some actual paint work. I'm going to give it a quick job to make it presentable, and perhaps when we move it will get a full-on restoration.

    Today's resto project, early 60s (?) Coldspot

My wife has been talking about a second fridge since I guzzle liquids at an alarming rate in the summer, plus extra milk, eggs, etc. storage. Even though she covers the electric bill, I insisted on a frost-full, uh... "yes" frost? However you're supposed to say "no expensive defroster circuit"...

Maytag Neptune Stacker won't spin. Not the "wax motor".

update Thanks very much for the replies. It did turn out to be the spin switch. I jumpered it and it went right back to normal. I'm thinking it must be carbon arcing inside the switch (the wax motor's plunger makes full contact). BTW, can anyone tell me why it's called a wax motor? Life...

Maytag Neptune Stacker won't spin. Not the "wax motor".

Thanks. Do you know if they use a "logic" circuit? As in a microprocessor needs to see switch open/switch closed? It would be easier to jumper those switches to rule them in/out.

Maytag Neptune Stacker won't spin. Not the "wax motor".

Basically as the title says. I ran a load and watched the wax motor do its thing as it should. Door locked light comes on. Drains normally. So I have two questions... 1) What to check next? Moving this thing away from the wall is a major project that involves me climbing over the top to access...

Where to begin troubleshooting a Flair oven?

Trade proposed: fridge, stove, freezer, DW

I have a matched set of 1964 Kenmore koppertone bottom freezer, gas stove and top-o-line upright freezer. Will also include 1983 Maytag DW (almond). Fridge stopped cooling last summer after a power outage. I'm thinking it could be the start cap, but no guarantees. Stove is gas with "brain...

Where to begin troubleshooting a Flair oven?

Suddenly stopped working. Element cold. indicator light does not come on. Control "clicks" and otherwise feels normal. Stove functions as per normal. Non-functional indicator makes me want to start in the control circuit, but I'm wonder if others have already invented this wheel? 30" model...

    Kitchen Aid Superba

I was at a "remodeling" sale last week and the seller was looking to off this dishwasher ($25), which they've never tried. I'd call the condition good/average. Location is in St. Clair Shores, MI (696/94 area). I have the guy's number, email me if interested... Chromacolor2 at yahoo Dott comm
