POD 12/20: Who made JC Penney laundry equipment?

GE/Hotpoint/JCP GE made Hotpoint since the stone age, but until the 70's, they were build differently. After that, Hotpoint became mechanically identical to GE, but maintained some slightly unique traits. The washer had the ring filter while GE still had the agitator-mounted basket filter...

    Inglis Portable Washer In NJ

The Inglis Cycle Inglis was Whirlpool's Canadian counterpart until recently. The WP name was introduced to Canada in the 70s as a twin to Inglis. Today, WP sells a whole range of models in Canada just like in the USA, and Inglis is now a budget make. Gary

    Loudest and Quietest washing machines

WP/Inglis Pump Some early WP washers had a very loud pump. My parents' early 60s Inglis had a pump that howled, and was heard throughout the house! Gary

POD 12/7/11 WH commercial 20# FL

Ald This is the first commercial sized washer I've seen under the Westy name, and I'm not sure whether those models ever had matching large drying tumblers. I understand that in the earlier days, Westy made commercial machines under the Ald name (ie Aldwash, Aldry). Gary

    POD 12-7-11

Reverse Tumble? I'm confused. I've seen ads of Westy Laundromats from the late 60s - early 70s (post slant-front), saying that they feature reverse-tumble. But I saw a White-Westinhouse on YouTube which only tumbled in one direction, and they said that the reverse-tumble was introduced in the...

    POD 5/12/11

The dryer certainly matches the Franklin design from the 60's with the top-mounted lint filter, but I didn't know the Franklin washers ever had a fibre glass tub. Gary

Marquette - never seen this brand before. Was it it's own company, or a clone of another make?

    Speed Queen - Canada

Canadian Department Store Brands Kenmore by Sears is made by WP; Beaumark by The Bay and Simpsons is made by GE; Baycrest by The Bay was made by GE; Viking by Eatons was made by Franklin until the 70s, then made by GE; Brentwood (by Woolco?) was made by GE; Coldspot fridges by Sears was...

    Speed Queen

Even in Laundromats... Now even the large laundromat dryers now come with this reverse-tumbling feature. Wascomat and Huebsch offers that. Gary

My New Boiler is now smaller than my Dryer!

Sneaky Trick I think people will sneak unrelated topics in the "free" forums to avoid paying to be an upgraded member.

Basaespuma Just curious; how old were the WP and Maytags in the duplex? Gary

POD 9/29/11 WP washer and dryer ad

At least in Canada... In those days, many homes were not designed to accommodate a dryer or an automatic washer. Those were luxury items for the rich folks. And the way the drying process is described, I take it the WP dryers always had the 4" duct with a high-speed blower, rather than the 3"...

    Re-using water for multiple loads?

Limited Sewage When I was young, most of the homes in our neighbourhood (including ours) were on septic tanks. So many of us had suds-saver washers to lessen the waste going out. Gary

Newer Speed Queen Comercial Model Top Loaders

Isn't it ironic? Once upon a time, SQ had one of the best rinses. The old ads claimed that the water was as clear as drinking water at the end of the cycle. Now this!! Gary

    196? Westinghouse laundromat on EBAY

Westy "Suds Saver" I love Westinghouse's idea of "suds-saver" - simply a water level selector - rather than reusing the wash water for subsequent loads. I know there's no need for that in a front loader. Gary

    RCA TL washer

WCI RCA Many years ago, I saw a late 60s-early 70s RCA in a scrap pile, and it was actually a Westy top loader under the badge. Gary

    Longest running automatic washer design?

WP Since Semi-Auto Whirlpool seemed to have that same BD design since their cylindrical semi-automatics dating back to the late 30's or early 40's. Gary

    Unique RCA Whirlpool Models

Window! So cool to see a vintage WP dryer with a window door. I don't think they were ever available in Canada. Gary

    Kenmore Filter Flo's?

Yep... During the late 80s/early 90s, Camco (Canadian G.E.) made some Kenmore products, including laundry appliances and fridges. Gary
