who remembers the washer dryer set there grandmother own when alive or still alive

My Grandmother on my father's side had a 1952 Kenmore automatic. It was the same as my mom's except mom's had a straight 3 vane agitator and Grandma's had what looked like the later roto-swirl agitator. Mom's had suds return. I don't think Grandma's did. No dryer. Clotheslines in the backyard...

    POD 9-16-19 Thor Automagic Dishwasher

Look at that stack of dirty dishes! It looks like a lot more dishes than the "four to six people" than the dishwasher rated capacity. At that rate the thing would be running load after load! Hope no one needs the kitchen faucet all day!

    Martha Washington stove

I had a match light Kenmore over for 7 years after college and loved it. Of course this was in the 1970's and as a kid had seen people use these so I knew what I was doing. I think anyone under 50 today would have no clue what they were doing and so these would be a danger to people today. I...

What are you trying to get off the hose? That white threaded piece on the end of the hose is supposed to be there. You connect the goose neck to that.

J2LP It's LOT cleaner than most I've seen. I wouldn't be too concerned with the wringer post. I've seen a lot that look like yours. I'm thinking maybe someone thought it would be a good idea to spray some WD-40 or other lubricant around the wringer seams. Just clean it up with any spray cleaner...

Hey Barry Don't fill the wringer shaft with any oil. Whatever is in there will do all the lubricating that's needed. The wringer shaft is actually packed with grease, not oil. Maybe yours has somewhat liquefied over the years, but it should be fine. You can only re-pack with new grease but...

J2LP To remove the agitator just grab it by the post with both hands and give it a pull up. Hopefully it will come right off. If not, well . . . we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. GREAT that it's a pump model! You should be able to reassemble the goose neck assembly. I seem to remember...

J2LP The label model does not have the "P" but they were easily added after market. There will be an ON OFF lever on the lower right side if it has a pump. I'm going by the drain hose. It has the threaded end used to connect the goose neck that hooks over the sink. Ask about that it if it's not...

J2LP AND it's a pump model. For $40 bucks I'd go for it! It was made in the late 60's and probably hasn't been used much.Laundress is right about checking for oil down the left rear leg. I suspect it will be clean but even if it isn't I'd still go for it. It's not that bad or difficult a job to...

Anyone have classic cars ready for Summer cruising?

1971 Chevelle Malibu Convertible 2nd owner! I bought it in 1995. Didn't look like this at the time! Original (rebuilt) 350 engine and TH350 transmission. Restored in 2013. Painted 1971 GM Cranberry Red. Used in Corvettes, Chevelles, Novas and ahem . . . Vegas!

What school food was your favorite, if any?

Check your old school's website. That's what I did for my Junior High and they post the next month's lunch menu. Whatever your old favorites are, they're likely no longer offered. Gone are the days of hot dogs and tater tots. Just about anything with meat or deep fried has been eliminated...

    New confused E2LPS owner

Nice Job That's about how mine came out. Looks pretty good for it's age and will be fully functional. I was going to tell you they do pop up from time to time on Ebay. But I couldn't justify buying one when I already have a working one. Other than for cosmetics. But who sees it under the...

    New confused E2LPS owner

I sanded it, primed it, then spray painted with Gloss Black Rustoleum. 6 years later, it doesn't look brand new,it's a little chewed up around the spline, but it's OK and it functions as intended. And I know what you mean about what you find under a stuck agitator, Mine even had 2 razor blades...

    New confused E2LPS owner

The LINT SCREEN Isn't essential for operation. Only pump models came with them. These were not so much for lint as they were to keep loose change, paper clips or anything else inadvertently left in pockets that would wreck the pump if they got it. So you can just be very careful that nothing...

Coal For Cooking/Heating. Any Of You Lot Actually Experience?

THE LUCY SHOW in 1962 featured an episode where Lucy decided to put a rumpus room in the basement. But before Lucy and Viv somehow managed to glue themselves to the wall, they had to move the coal bin. And once they were stuck, the coal truck showed up for a delivery, stuck a chute through the...

Does anyone still use a clothesline?

Brabantia in Colorado too! It works great! Even when use my wringer, which leaves about 25% more water in the clothes, they dry in our low humidity climate almost as fast as the dryer. I use it about 7 months of the year here. Plus the local utility company, Xcel Energy, jack our electric...

Sears Credit Card was my first credit card too in 1973. I was still in High School but I worked at Sears so I was able to get a credit card with a $250.00 line of credit! It's sad. I went by my old Sears store, Sears Oakbrook, when I was in the Chicago area a few weeks ago and was so...

    Microwave oven starting by itself

Mine did that too! It was a JC Penney or whoever made it for them. Bought in about 1982. One day in 1996 I came home from work and it was running and VERY hot.Even the dishes in the cabinet above it were warm. I unplugged it and would only plug it in when needed. But I'd occasionally forget to...
