    E2lp gear case lockup

sounds to me like a Power Unit problem. Mine did the same thing. I could manually reverse the pulley by hand to loosen it. The it would run anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes before it would lock up again. It turned out that a piece of metal had broken loose from one of the gears and as it would...

    Maytag Agitator Variations

Depended on the model My Mom's Maytag was a 2 speed, 3 temperature, 3 water level with suds return. No lights or other bells and whistles. Her's had the skinny 4 blade black agitator like they used on the wringers. My Aunts was a similar model, feature wise, but had a lighted console so was...

Care of Aluminum Tube in a Maytag E2L

Buy some Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish at the auto parts store and prepare to go through a LOT of rags! I use any detergent I want. Tide, Gain, whatever. I also use liquid bleach. It's a WASHING MACHINE and I'm not concerned with the appearance of the tub. If it gets dull, you get out the...

And MORE in the Sears store. They likely 20 more models, including a selection of Kenmore wringer washers. So this is from 1960 you think? I was wondering because my Grandma had this BOL electric dryer. Last time I was up to"the farm" in 2008 that dryer was still sitting in the barn. It still...

    Thor Wringer Washer

Drying the old fashioned way or with an automatic dryer? Wringing leave about 25% more water in clothes that a high speed spin. I started line drying a few years ago so as to not use more energy drying wet clothes. I have an electric dryer so it adds up in the summer. And you know living in...

    Maytag Wringer Washer

Hi Duncan, Looks like I'm a little late to this party! I haven't seen someone have so much trouble since - - - - - ME! Your center plate is hopeless. I have one but it needs new bearings. It was leaking into the power unit which caused me to tear everything down many times before I figured...

    Got a Maytag wringer today

That's encouraging! So it's got oil. Doesn't appear to be water contaminated. Now you just need to see if you can manually move the pulley on the power unit. Make sure the agitator is in the off or neutral position. The power unit should move freely. If not it's likely a broken or chipped gear...

    Got a Maytag wringer today

Could be a couple of things. It's possible that water got in and rusted everything together. Possible all the oil leaked out as some point and it froze up. Could be a gear cracked or "chipped a tooth" and locked up. That was the case with mine.

    Got a Maytag wringer today

You could also try Removing the belt. Plug in the motor and see if the motor spins while not hooked up. If the motor runs, it's good. While it's free, see if you can move the pulley on the power unit. If you can't then the power unit is frozen up and that's why the motor only hums when...

    Got a Maytag wringer today

Hi Ken So if I'm caught up here, you can turn the pulley by hand and the pulley and the belt move? But when you plug the machine in the motor only hums but doesn't move at all? Also try this. Pull the knob out for the agitator. Even with no power in the "on" position you shouldn't be able to...

POD 05/17/2017 Ah, but they DID care about electricity costs in those days. Probably more so than today. Those users grew up during the Great Depression and it was a waste not want not, a penny saved is a penny earned, era. I remember when I was a kid, if you left a room at night and left a...

    Top Load or Front Load....?

Funny thing about rinsing . . . When I first got my front loader, Sears Kenmore in 2005. I noticed it almost oversuds in every load when I 1st got it. I was using HE detergent and the correct amount so I didn't know what the problem was. Later, after everything had gone through 1 wash in the...

    What is this Washer?

It is a WP design. In those days Whirlpool made ALL Kenmores. Automatics and Wringers so this is one or the other.

Skinny Mini The first place I rented when I moved to Denver had a Skinny Mini. After having a set of Whirlpool compact/portables in my old condo, I was thrilled to live in a place with a washer/dryer. I guess by that time I was spoiled. My landlady told me she didn't think the Skinny washed...

Nice J2LP you got there. A pump model to boot. You'll have some splainin' to do but I'm sure you'll come up with something brilliant!

    E2L Restoration

Stainless Steel is what mine appear to be. I bought a set from Phil in Ovid N.Y. But I suppose it doesn't matter as long as it's a metal that doesn't rust. I like you idea of getting the right size bolts from McMaster-Carr. Then you just need a stainless steel wsher and the rubber gasket. The...

    Maytag E2L restoration update

It's gorgeous BUT! How does it run? You can't beat a wringer for plain old washing. No bells and whistles. Do delicate cycles. No permanent press. It had one function. TO WASH!

Can anyone help me to identify model and year of Maytag Wringer washer

What color is the agitator? Many of these have been changed out to the aqua blue but if yours is black that would but in in the per-1966 arena.

    Epoxy enamel appliance paint

That lids looks like it will paint up fine. You probably won't even be able to tell once it's primed and painted. On the older machines like mine they didn't paint the inside of the lid. I did paint the underside of mine because I think that looks nicer. 4 years later and no issues with steam or...
