Is there a modern washer worth buying?

Nowt wrong with condenser dryers, despite an earlier comment. You get much fluffier towels from them than vented dryers. Bolt-down commercials are not a good idea - crude and slow-spinning, plus you get tons of vibration. Commercial machines now are increasingly soft-mount. There are...

Is there a modern washer worth buying?

I've only recently begun using powder for really mucky stuff after years of only using liquid detergents, and while the powders with oxygen bleach are useful for dealing with heavily-stained whites, they're not so good for colours (dyes run more easily) and the clothes don't smell as nice...

Is there a modern washer worth buying?

Miele. Go for the W1 if you want tons of features, steam etc, or the Little Giant if you just want commercial durability. The bigger Octoplus machines seem to be hit-and-miss in terms of whether you can find someone willing to sell one to private homes. Pricey, but then they'll last you...

    Introducing The AEG 46200 TopLader

As previously mentioned, you could run an electric motor-driven generator... surely that shouldn't be too hard to rig up cheaply? After all, isn't a generator basically just a motor being turned by external power? So all you'd need would be one 50Hz motor and a spare 60Hz one to act as the genny...

New washers and dryers in our building laundry

Ah yes, because Alliance quality is so wonderful... NOT! Overrated unsophisticated junk bought because they're a hang sight cheaper than decent European-made Primus or Miele machines... they're cheaper for a reason, folks! Those places here that have them seem to have little luck with them, 2...

My photo movie of the abandoned Hoover factory in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, UK

New Waves were the beginning of the end in themselves - utter shyte quality compared to the old Electrons and Logics. Plastic outer tubs, sealed-in bearings that fell to bits in no time, inadequate suspension, cheap noisy motors, flimsy cases... just not robust at all. They're a seriously rare...

Maytag Washer MVWP575GW Review with matching Dryer

My advice would be to shell out cash on a 24" Miele washer & dryer, which will likely last you the rest of your days... but if you can't afford that cash, and/or want/need a bigger 27" machine, I'd say LG or Maytag...

    Well... That got interesting quickly!

OI! You two! Yer bahookies are oot the windie! Keep it civil - it's only an old dryer you're arguing about, not a matter of life and death!

    Best new TL stackers?

Water usage - fair enough - but the top-load washer will probably use as much as the combo anyway. My late-90s Bosch condensing washer-dryer combo hasn't had major problems deriving from it being a combo - the PCB died, but then so did that on the near-identical washer I had before. Shock...

    2018 Maytag vs. SQ

Right! I've gone through a bunch of videos, and it does seem the old Mieles generally have a cool-down/suds-kill rinse or two before the first spin. This AEG Lavamat Bella seems not to: Anyway, the thread has drifted a LONG way... the question is, when will SQ wake up to the reality that their...

    2018 Maytag vs. SQ

Yeah, I used a small 's' to indicate plural, not a suffix - 420 was called "De Luxe" I believe? Then there was the 520 - was that just a rebadge? And the 421 seemed to go through a few changes, different doors for a start.

    2018 Maytag vs. SQ

Henene4 - I shall have to look up some more videos, but I've definitely seen 420s and 421s that spun before every rinse, ditto the old AEG Lavamat Nova/Regina/Deluxe with the backlit controls...

    Best new TL stackers?

Nothing wrong with a good condensing combo... and there's nothing quite like the peace of mind of chucking a load of laundry on at bedtime and knowing it'll be ready for use in the morning.

    Introducing The AEG 46200 TopLader

Any progress to report, or is this one doomed to end up in the dump as well?

    2018 Maytag vs. SQ

My 2005 Miele W2240 spins before and after all rinses. So did the old 410/412/416 and 420/421 Deluxe machines of the 60s and early 70s. Ditto the old AEG Lavamats.

    2018 Maytag vs. SQ

Most front-loaders until recently used lots of water to rinse, but a single deep rinse after a spray in the spin is simply not enough. Even with two deep rinses, the SQs don't rinse that well. They're OK for lightly-soiled stuff, but if you need to really clean and sanitise properly dirty stuff...

That modern pic is clearly of a dryer... ;-)

    2018 Maytag vs. SQ

Nothing can clean and rinse a large load of dirty clothes effectively in just 35 minutes. Not the old Speed Queen, not anything. You're expecting too much of a fundamentally primitive machine. That's why almost all industrial OPL machines are front-loaders with long cycles and powerful on-board...

    Wash Plate & Refridgerate

Which wash-plate top-loaders to avoid? ALL OF THEM! They're ALL useless! Couldn't wash a dusty dishcloth. Huge drums but no point trying to load 'em up because they can't move the load around. Seriously, if you can't get a traditional agitator top-loader like the new commercial-type Maytag...
