If you're going down the replacement route, another brand to consider is Miele. They're one of the dominant players in the market this side of the Atlantic, with a reputation for robust quality. They're a much smaller concern in the US, though.

I love the styling of these early machines. The Constructa K3 is a bolt-down model, I believe, but the similar-looking K4 is soft-mount. Does anyone know why the Miele 700 had the second smaller window next to the door? Also, were it and the 702 rigid or soft-mount? What was the model number...

I read of someone with (I think) a 520 (which looks exactly the same as a 420) getting a NOS door boot from Miele in recent times...

Ooh - a bit of a head-scratcher for me! The only EEs I know of are the Liberator range (rebadged American Westinghouse Spacemates), but this looks to be a different creature altogether... 75 years ago was 1943, nobody was building appliances then for obvious reasons, but 70 years old doesn't...

A lot of childhood memories of the Hoover Electron/Logic family too... these machines seemed to be ubiquitous for a time. The matching dryers were based on the Maytag Halo of Heat design, right down to the hard-to-access lint filter on the back of the drum!

The Bendix 7147 is rather nice too. The styling is a nod back in the direction of the old Bendix bolt-down machines that were many middle-class families' first automatics in the early 1950s, but still looks modern even 40 years or so after its introduction. Whopping big brushless motors too, so...

Can't let you Americans have it all your own way... One personal favourite: the AEG Lavamat Regina/Deluxe. The basic design was so good, it was in production for something like 25 years. So stylish, especially with the backlit control panels...

I think the highest-spinning machine from the old vintage Miele series was the W421S, and that only went to 720rpm IIRC...

How does the Speed Queen combo compare? It spun very slightly faster than the Duomatic, 515rpm vs 505, so I'm presuming it was fully suspended like the Bendix. Did Easy ever produce a soft-mount machine?

I've also seen adverts for Easy combos under the "Combomatic" name - does this predate them? "Vibration-free", but it's a hard-mount... what's the spin speed, 200rpm? Bet they just weren't up to paying Bendix's patent license fees... Do any Easy combos survive now?

Nope! That's a 1940s Bendix of some kind. Could be washer, dryer or washer-dryer.
