Keeping Warm This Winter. Gas? Oil? Coal?

I have forced air gas heat. The furnace is called a Ruud Achiever, but that’s all I know about it. It’s very compact; the heat exchanger (I guess that’s what it’s called?) takes up most of the bulk. The house and furnace are 7 years old, although I have not been here that whole time. I think it...

    History of WCI

Interesting read—thanks for posting it. I particularly noticed the outsourcing of sewing machine production and the reduction of US operations in the postwar years. I guess that sort of thing has a longer history than I thought. I must admit that it surprised me. Thanks again.

    Wal-Mart and powdered laundry detergents

All the Target stores in my area have the Tide HE powder. They have the regular “31 load” box for $6.99, and they also have a larger box. So check there too. I have also seen it at some of the larger supermarkets, but our Wal*Mart stores don’t carry it.

    obsessed with cassettes

fonografmaniac, it's obvious that you like cassettes! I do, too. I have a little Tascam 4-track cassette recorder to put down my own music. It works pretty well. I just have a Technics cassette component unit to play them back on. It's from the early '90s but it works OK. Whirlcool, that's nice...

Anyone here in to vinyl? Part II

fonografmaniac, I loved that video! Thanks! That is a BSR 500 I think, yes? I see that it has an ADC cartridge, which were standard on some BSRs inasmuch as BSR owned ADC. I had a BSR 510, which was similar to yours except that it came with a Shure cartridge. I wish I still had it. Thanks...

Anyone here in to vinyl? Part II

Any BSR fans (or nonfans) here? I found this somewhat incomplete (abandoned?) website about BSR changers awhile back. Check it out for an entertaining look at the brand. Be sure to look at the recruitment ads! http://www.bsr-mcdonald.co.uk/

    Detergent commercial sighting question

Thanks. I thought it might be him, and the voice certainly sounds the same. I don't know how old it is; the description didn't say. I'm guessing late 1980s, early 1990s? I don't remember this commercial at all.

    Detergent commercial sighting question

Hello, all: Take a look at the Gain detergent commercial below. Is that Rob Keefe from the PBS series "Real Simple"? I think it is but am not sure. Thanks. <embed src=...

    R.I.P. Swing-A-Way

We had a Swing-A-Way can opener attached to the door frame in our kitchen when I was growing up. It had an ice crusher attachment, too; you removed the pin and replaced the can opener with the ice crusher, which worked by turning a crank. I didn't even know the company still existed. Obviously...
