Maytag HDE 806 Dryer no longer heating

Ok, here's the deal - it heats again, but on regular it doesn't heat enough. It seems to work on Permanent Press, but regular seems to dry to the damp dry point and that's it. I think it could be one of two things: 1) I crossed some wires putting it back together or 2) The new thermostat...

Maytag washer not rinsing on regular

So, I got the dryer (mostly) fixed and now the washer is misbehaving. On the regular cycle, it no longer rinses or drains, but it works fine on Permanent Press. Any ideas? On the other hand, its leaking issue seems to have disappeared......

Maytag HDE 806 Dryer no longer heating

Success! We spent mst of today working on this, and I’m happy to report that the dryer is once again up and running! The culprit ended up being the thermostat on top of the drum.

    Kenmore (Roper) stove thermostat calibration

My hobby project is this 1960’s Kenmore electric range (probably made by Roper). The burners all work, but the upper oven thermostat is wildly out of calibration. I’m used to calibrating the oven thermostats on Frigidaire ovens, but this one mystifies me. The only way to get to the thermostat...

Maytag HDE 806 Dryer no longer heating

So I’ve finally had a chance to look at this, and determined that it was manufactured in December of 1972. The tech manual (downloaded from AW, thank you) says that there were three versions: one with reed switch and wire baffle, one with reed switch and bar baffle, and one with SCR and bar...

Maytag HDE 806 Dryer no longer heating

Where does the 240 usually fail? I k ow how to check the outlet, and that will tell me that both it and the breakers are good. I assume the next stop is the terminal block. Anything past that to check?

Maytag HDE 806 Dryer no longer heating

Thanks! I’ll be looking for those part, and almost certainly bugging you with questions when I’m ready to start working :-) This set is at our house in Eastern WA, so we’re not here all the time.

Maytag HDE 806 Dryer no longer heating

My beloved Harvest Gold Maytag dryer has stopped heating! Do they still make parts for this model? Anything I should try before calling the repair guy (who is based out of the next town over, so there’s a hefty trip charge) It tumbles like a champ, just no heat.

Kenmore late 60’s oven door hinge.

Thanks! I’ll give it another try tomorrow.

Kenmore late 60’s oven door hinge.

I have a Frigidaire Flair knock-off branded as Kenmore, manufacturer unknown (I’ve heard maybe Roper?) It’s cute, and works for my purposes, but the lower oven isn’t seated correctly (see pics). Does anyone have any info on these?

    Self-healing Maytags?

What I'm saying is that the leaks have stopped. I wonder if it could be that the hoses and connectors were dry because it hadn't been used for a long time, and the now semi-frequent use has made them more flexible and less likely to leak. I'd love to have it get a tune-up, but it's out in a...

    Self-healing Maytags?

We got this set of Maytags a free years back from some ditzy lady in Seattle who couldn't understand why we would want them, and couldn't understand why the dryer had no filter. We got them for free, and she even helped us load them on the truck. We put them in our vacation home where they...

    Hotpoint Hallmark Base Separation

Thanks for looking! :-) I guess we'll just keep it on one piece.

    Hotpoint Hallmark Base Separation

Hello there, I am helping a friend with his Hotpoint Hallmark (which was Hotpoint's version of the Frigidaire Flair) and I can't for the life of me figure out how the range separates from the base. The flair is very straightforward - there are four big bolts that anchor the stove to the base...

    Sunbeam Appliance Center knobs

The remaining knob just doesn't want to budge off the post, and I'm afraid to force it. But really - the clock only has to be changed twice a year, and the cook time doesn't matter. I just have been using it for coffee in the morning, and two hours to brew and then keep warm is plenty (plus, it...

    Sunbeam Appliance Center knobs

I've had this Sunbeam Appliance Center for years, and I've recently taken an interest in the timed outlet feature, which works like a champ. However, as you can see, It's missing two knobs, which means that I have to use a pliers to set other controls, which can't be good for it. Anyone have a...

New York Banning gas in All new construction StateWide

As a utility guy, I find this very interesting. For decades, ConEd pretty much ceded the cooking sector to gas because they've always sort of lived on the edge, electrical capacity speaking. I suppose the folks in planning are thinking that the gradual adaptation of electric cooking will both be...

    Electric Clock with mechanical chimes

Ultramatic, that's what I was thinking as well - although I think it's probably more 60's/very early 70's. Both the styling and the chime mechanism seem more of that era. By the late 70's/Early 80's they were starting to use synth chimes (and they usually look a lot more cheap) Thanks Ralph. I...

    Electric Clock with mechanical chimes

The clock is a “Butler”. I *think I may have fixed it, through brute force (from a clock’s perspective): I moved the minute hand counter-clockwise to the correct time, not allowing the mechanism to cycle. So far, it’s been behaving. It’s missing a second hand, which is no big deal (how many...

    Electric Clock with mechanical chimes

I recently picked up an electric grand-something clock (Father? Mother? who knows). It's unique in that is has a mechanical chime mechanism, which is something I haven't seen. The trouble is that the chimes are seriously out of sync, chiming about five minutes after the time they should chime...
