    Maytag hierarchy question

I owned an 806 set that lasted for 20 years, with only a couple of repairs. Sadly, the dryer capacity did no match what the washer could hold, but both machines performed well. The exception being that the washer could not easily rollover sheets or jeans, especially during the rinse cycle. I...

    kenmore dishwasher model# 630-13902011.

I had a Kitchen Aid clone Kenmore Elite. It never dried very well, but it did a good job of cleaning. After 6 years its main motor failed. I replaced it with a TOL Kitchen Aid. It doesn't dry very well either.

during the course of 2023 if you had to buy a vintage washer to replace your modern washer

I would love to have my Frigidaire 1-18 and matching Wide-Mouth dryer that I had back in the 70's. The thermostatic automatic drying system was much more accurate than my current LG dryer, and worked with small loads.

    POD 4-28-23

I had a "roll-to-the-sink" belt drive portable machine. It did a great job for its size. It also had a very fast spin that should have been shared with its full-size belt drive cousins.

Automatic dishwasher detergent that will not dull dishes?

Because of their convenience, we used detergent pods for a few years. In 2010, my late partner/husband moved to a home that had naturally very soft water, and it took about a year for the daily glassware to get etched. I wish P&G or other manufacturers would make a soft water pod. I have had to...

How likely are you to convert your car to Electric?

Here in Idaho and other states where the power source is hydroelectric, inexpensive, and carbon neutral, it may make sense to own an electric vehicle. I really don't think the millennium of technology for electric vehicles has arrived yet. There remain too many unresolved issues, IMHO. However...

    main wash pump on dishwashers

I have a 2018 TOL Whirlpool-made KitchenAid dishwasher. Its drying performance totally sucks. It has an asthmatic blower fan, but if one opens the machine at exactly the time when the cycle is complete, steam pours out of it and even glasses and plates still have water droplets on them. And yes...

    GE FilterFlo Question

The Maytag AMP banging solenoid machines can also be damaged by changing speed while operating. I know this because it happened to ours when I was a pre-teen. Mom changed the spin speed to low while it was spinning, which resulted in a service call.

A Royal Restoration - Summer of Love Speed Queens!

WOW! Solenoid slamming sounds are definitely a sweet sound from the past. Norge and Maytag AMP mechanisms treated us to this experience as well. I always thought that a fluid drive AKA a viscous drive was a great idea and should have been used by more manufacturers. They can help solid clutches...

    ~100 Year-old Underwood Standard No. 5 Typewriter

I also have an Underwood 5 typewriter. It is in perfect shape and I even have extra ribbons for it. I still use occasionally for special tasks. But, I need to find a willing recipient as I'm sorta getting ready to meet the saints.

    KDS-21 Panels

I had warranty work done on my TOL Whirlpool-made KitchenAid dishwasher as the seal around the fill limit float failed. When the techs that Asurion sent out for the repair were gone, the kick panel came loose on the left end as they neglected to screw it in tightly. So, at my advanced age, I...

Who was the largest and most advanced technologically in your opinion?

Whirlpool/KM machines were always ahead of their time. I think the fact that Whirlpool made laundry appliances for Sears for many years, probably made them one of the top sellers. The Kenmore top loaders were, IMHO, ahead of their time in development of their higher end WP made machines. They...

What is the real story regarding GM/Frigidaire Washers?

When Frigidaire "reinvented the washer" and introduced the 1-18, CU rated it just below the Maytag. IIRC, the noise level during washing was one of the the reasons for 2nd place. I'd have to concur as the 1-18 my partner and I had was exceptionally loud, especially when the water level was set a...

    vacuum coffee makers and cost

Here's another sideways shot of my current daily driver automatic vacuum coffee maker. It was made by KitchenAid and I bought it quite a few years ago. I doubt that it is still in production. It makes delicious coffee without bitterness or a burned flavor.

Legends of Dishwashing: The Maytag Reverse Rack

And wouldn't you just know it, my late husband and I bought our second Maytag dishwasher when we purchased our new home. It was the first year after Maytag dropped the reverse rack design. However, it still washed and dried incredibly well, but had some technical flaws regarding seals and the...

vintage front loaders, but a little newer

We loved our 1979 White-Westy, but by that time WCI had cheapened them considerably, including a painted-not-porcelain top and door. The door paint started peeling after about 2 years, and the top was prone to scratching very easily. It did a great job with its potato pulley, and could hold more...

    My coffee maker

Here is my DD coffee maker. Sorry about the photo being sideways. It's an automatic KitchenAid siphon/vacuum type and makes delicious coffee without any bitterness.

    DG906 Work Finally Begins

My HOH DG806 gas dryer from 1970 was an excellent dryer, except for its tiny capacity. The matching washer held much more laundry than the dryer could. I found it prudent to split terrycloth items and heavy jeans, into two loads. Other than that its moisture sensing design, regardless of load...

what would be your dream vintage dishwasher to own and use in 2023

The best performing dishwasher I ever owned was a Maytag made non-RR, (though it appeared to have the same wash system) with a very powerful forced air dry. My current TOL Whirlpool-made Kitchen Aid washes well, but even with forced air, its drying performance is woefully inadequate.
