Removal of a 1948 GE Dishwasher questions

My in-laws had an old GE electric sink back in the 70's that was still usable. One of the things I thought was interesting is that the timer was built into the mechanism and driven from the motor and had cams to operate different functions. I think it might have used some sort of worm drive.

Have you seen this Washing Machine rubber pad commercial?

It is obvious that the vibrating machine in this video is purposefully not leveled.

question for frigedair expert on aw

Back in the late 90's, I purchased this set for a home I had just bought. The washer lasted about 6 years before the rear bearings failed. Frigidaire replaced the rear tub assembly, I had to pay the labor. The washer had very excellent washing performance, and the dryer was one of the early...

    Opinions: most irritating-sounding washer ever?

My Annoy Award still goes to Norge/Montgomery Ward machines with the banging, spring-loaded tub brake. Also, during agitation or spin, they made no attempt to dampen the fact that really were built like a tank and were very aggressive machines, perfect for washing farm or ranch clothes.

Rhode Island Rescue part 1 - The Frigidaire DW CIUK dishwasher

When I was a teen, my parents bought this exact, turquoise, top-of-the-line dishwasher. Frigidaire had stopped making their spin tube models. There was nothing all that wrong with the spin tube dishwashers, but a whole lot of stupid by the owners not bothering to read or follow the instructions...

It looks like some of the coin-op laundry equipment shown here, may need a visit from Mister Repairman.

    Modern vs Mechanical Controls

I still think it is madness to put electronics such as control boards and touch controls, in an appliance that exposes them to heat and moisture. Ranges, Dishwashers, Microwave Ovens, Washers and Dryers will usually suffer electronics failures before any of their other mechanical parts break...

NEW Norge Dishwasher - never used

D&M machines were good basic machines. They most often didn't have a food particle filter, but our D&M made Magic Chef performed flawlessly back in 1976. All we needed to do was scrape the dishes with a rubber spatula before loading. I will admit, however, that it was a water hog.

New GE Top Load Washer Line-Up

Just for S&G, I checked out the new GE Top Load Smart Washer line-up. They all looked like competent, useful machines. But, then I drilled down (twice) to the specifications. All seemed good until I saw only 800 RPM as a maximum spin speed. Nowadays, we have become used to 1000 or more, as the...

    POD 4/22/22

Bob, our Westinghouse roll-out dishwasher had a wood panel front that matched our kitchen cabinets. I remember the red switch on ours would invoke a heat-boosting wash and rinse delay. There were markings around the timer knob that indicated "Power Soak" during the wash cycle delay and "Power...

If Forced To Choose Only One Modern Major Appliance

I would love to be able to afford an induction range. My other appliances are all up-to-date current models.

    POD 4/22/22

We had the built-in, roll-out-drawer version of this dishwasher. It was a typical impeller machine with no food particle filter. I could never figure out how a dishwasher with the cheesy Wash-rinse-rinse program, could clean dishes so flawlessly. Sparkling glassware with no etching, and no...

    Steel Outer Tubs?

I've always wondered if steel outer tubs for front-loaders did a better job of pulling heat away from the tub bearings and seals, acting like a heat sink. I've had two front-loaders that both lost their bearings and seals in a few years of use, and had a plastic or fiberglass? outer tub.

What is your favorite washing machine?

I wish I had kept my Frigidaire 1-18. It's still my favorite out of all the washers I have owned.

    POD G.E. Vintage Dishwashers

GE Dishwashers were ubiquitous in the 60's, 70's and beyond. Although they wouldn't get a soil-separator (particle filter) until the early 80's or so, they were simple and lasted a very long time. The Potscrubber 1200 and 2400 models with their passive filters would take care of the problem of...

    MCM Home Tour-Unique Dishwasher

I'm just lusting over that Magnavox Stereo console. It's about a 1962 vintage, and it would have a tube-type chassis and great sound. I wonder if it is still really functional, if so, I'm sure the power supply would have been rebuilt, with new electrolytic capacitors.

PLEASE READ THIS, My Appologies Everyone!

Robert, no apology necessary. We OCD appliance and past appliance lovers found this site to be just what we needed. Thank you for all your diligence and hard work over the past years. Besides, Robert, did you ever stop to think that the Russians probably hacked into this site to copy all of the...

Fisher and Paykel Topload dryer (Post images below)

The F&P top load dryer was my favorite of all the dryers I have ever owned. We had it in our family for over 18 years, and during that time, it only needed 2 very minor service calls, both to reset a circuit breaker. We learned from those that we had to ensure a clean and fairly straight exhaust...

    Today's POD 2/20/2022

My late husband and I purchased this set back in the early 1980's. I still feel they were/are among the most beautiful past laundry pairs out there. The washer performed very well, though we found a more gentle wash cycle was all that was needed, as this washer had a very aggressive mechanism...

    Neptune TL Set

IMHO, I think Whirlpool gave up too soon on the Calypso. I feel the issues with it could have been worked out. From a functioning standpoint, it was a great design.
