    Ungrounded Outlets

High wattage appliances 3,000 watt rapid boil electric kettles are common place here in the UK, I wouldn't go back to the old fashioned 2,200 watt ones we used to have, it would take too long to make tea! Power outages in the UK are rare in the extreme, the national grid takes care of peak...

UK: When appliances came without plugs fitted. There used to be a public safety information film regularly shown in the daytime and weekend ad breaks warning of the hazard of not fitting a plug:- It used to annoy me when they used to supply appliances without a plug in the UK, that the flex...

Help wife just broke glass in 1965-66 ge refrigerator.

As far as I know, you can't cut toughened glass, it will shatter. It has to be cut to size, and the edges ground before it is sent off to be tempered. You can get some pretty good uv set glass glue, but I doubt that would survive the cold.

    CR detergent tests update

Both dishwasher's I've owned could optionally be connected to the hot water supply. As I recall, you just needed to replace the cold fill hose on one of them with one that can withstand hot water. (One was an Hotpoint, which was made by Bosch, the current is a Bosch). I only have mine on the...

    Finish Ultimate... Anybody tried these?

I've used the UK version of Finish Ultimate, and it's good, but Fairy platinum Plus cleans a bit better. Probably different formulations for the UK market though. Used to get great results from the cheap Lidl and Aldi own brand tablets before phosphates were phased out, whatever water softener...

    Is this new

TAED is an oxygen bleach activator, which makes oxygen bleach work better at lower temperatures ( it converts the hydrogen peroxide released by the reaction of the sodium percarbonate with water, to peracetic acid ). NOBS is an alternative that I gather is more common in the US, and apparently...

    CR detergent tests update

Hot tap water reportedly contains more dissolved metals from the plumbing, presumably a bigger issue if the water is acidic. Hot water supply is not considered potable in the UK either, partly risk of bacteria and metals and contaminates from boiler, or cylinder. I think enzymes in most...

Speed Queen experts Help Plz. Blanket Disintegration UGH

Forgot to post a picture of my 14 year old Zanussi's door seal. Water gets trapped at the bottom because there is no drain hole, so I've got a bit of a limescale problem, and the rubber had not aged well. I do leave the door open as well as the draw, and it will also get cleaned in the wash...

Speed Queen experts Help Plz. Blanket Disintegration UGH

I found a steamer with a small brush attachment worked quite well to clean out mould from my Zanussi's detergent dispenser compartment, and was a lot easier than taking the compartment apart. I now just leave the draw slightly open between washes to let it dry out, so I don't have to bother.

fabric conditioner and rubber Surprisingly, Samsung seem to have made a poor choice of rubber for the seals used in the dispenser pump used in their Uk sold auto dose machines. https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/home-appliances/automatic-conditioner-dispenser/td-p/4060023

Spider Corrosion, And Foul Odors, In Front Load Washers

Had a quick search for other documents about the biofilm class action, and came across a few later ones. These mention biofilm deposits leading to crevice corrosion, and also that the use of hypochloride bleach accelerates this corrosion. As I understand it crevice corrosion can occur where...

Spider Corrosion, And Foul Odors, In Front Load Washers

fabric softener Mould growing in the fabric conditioner residue left in the draw compartment got close to wrecking mine, it partially blocked one of the inlet jets at the back of the draw compartment, diverting the water so that some leaked out under the draw, and across the front plastic facia...

Spider Corrosion, And Foul Odors, In Front Load Washers

Biofilm induced intergranular corrosion Prior to 2005 Whirlpool spiders were made of 383 aluminium alloy. In June 2005 they made a design change to the material to 413 aluminium alloy, which has a lower copper content. The change in material was made to prevent, or significantly reduce the...

    Dyson Contrarotator CR01

Nice machine, amazed its lasted so well! I think that's one of their more pleasing colour schemes. I remember these being about £1,200 in the shops when an average washing machine would set you back £300 - £400, and they usually had the purple, or the purple and grey model on display, so I...

    Samsung spiders

I've also seen lots of photos of disintegrating Samsung spiders when I was looking into UK sold machines that still have replaceable bearings. I noticed that quite a lot of them showed drums and tubs coated in brown gunge, and some complaining that their machine stank, and I would think that...
