Electric Cars are now Biting into Gasoline Sales

Don't many electric cars use lithium-ion batteries? And aren't those something of a fire hazard?   One of my neighbors has a Prius. I had no idea it wasn't rechargeable. Another neighbor from a block or two away, parks their Tesla near here. They love their Tesla, or so I'm told.

Vintage DW Pro in SF Bay Area?

Kate,   I would theorize that the loud sound is coming from the wash arms, if any, at the bottom (or top) of the Kitchenaid-18. Or it could be from something getting caught in the debris chopper if any at the bottom of the DW. Not sure about that, but if so it sounds like it could be a fairly...

Automatic dishwasher detergent that will not dull dishes?

From Maytag.com:   <span class="ILfuVd" lang="en"><span class="hgKElc">"Soak a small rag or dish towel in vinegar, then rub a portion of the glass with the rag. A glass that's milky from hard water buildup should become clearer with each wipe."</span></span>

New York Banning gas in All new construction StateWide

California has banned sale of new gas water and home heaters  by about 2030. However gas stoves are not currently included in the ban, AFAIK.   I much prefer cooking with gas over electric. Not that I do a whole lot of cooking these days, and my wall oven is electric. I do have a spare gas...

Automatic dishwasher detergent that will not dull dishes?

Also, while I don't "pre-wash" dishes, I usually do rinse debris off them before loading the dishwasher. This helps reduce the maintenance on the filter on the bottom of the Bosch DW here, and may help with the final result, as well as reducing total cycle time.   The water here is...

1985 General Electric Furnace New in Box

This house has a similar forced air gas furnace. It's probably about 10 years newer than the one pictured in this thread, since I was told it was replaced a few years before I bought this house in 1997.    I don't remember what brand it is, and don't particularly want to crawl under the...

    Electric Clock with mechanical chimes

Because some people block posts, and the message numbers do not stay constant, it is often helpful to mention names of those you agree with, rather than message numbers.

Good luck with that. I don't have a similar clock, but would be interested in knowing what the ultimate solution might be.

Bleach Prices the Next victim of "Inflation"?

I rarely if ever use chlorine bleach. I probably have a gallon jug of it in the patio kitchen or patio bathroom or the main kitchen under the sink that's at least 10 years old. I *think* I used some recently, like in the past 2 months, to remove some nasty stains from the kitchen sink. Didn't...

Household trash compactors vs plastic bottles

We get three types of garbage bins here: the smallest for regular household waste, the next size up for recyclable materials, and then the biggest for yard waste.   Recently got a reminder from the local trash company that various things do no belong in the recyclable material bin: styrofoam...

Not So Fast re: "Banning" Gas Stoves

Well, my home is heated by gas, although the furnace blower apparently consumes about 500 watts when it's going. Even when temps are at their lowest, like this past winter, the furnace would only come on about once an hour, for 5-15 minutes. Now that things have warmed up considerably...

    Bosch vs Vtg KitchenAid Dishwasher

Bob,   It could have been a Frigidaire. There was an inoperable dishwasher in this place when I bought it. I replaced it. Whether it was with a Frigidaire or Kitchenaid, I can't remember at this point. All I know is that the Bosch has performed very well for at least 20 years.
