    Deep Well Pans

"The pilot light did the cooking"...   I find that a bit hard to believe. I wouldn't think that a pilot light puts out enough energy to cook. Maybe it could keep things warm for a bit. What's the BTU's on a pilot light?

    Nationwide gas stove ban?

    Deep Well Pans

Derek,   Were deep well cookers only in electric ranges?   I think so. It could be difficult to get air to a gas burner deep in the well. Not impossible, but perhaps more trouble than they were worth.   I also suspect that electric range mfgs hit on the deep well design to give electric...

    Deep Well Pans

Like I said in another thread... one rental I stayed in, probably in college, had a deep well on the range. As I recall the right size pot to go in it was missing, so we didn't use it at all. And that may be why such setups have gone the way of the dodo bird: once the pan/pot/whatever has...

    Deep Well Pans

When I did a google search on "deep well pans", most of the results looked like the kind of pans one might find in a restaurant chow line.

    Deep Well Pans

Louis,   I'm well aware of what a deep well cooker is. In fact I used to live in a rental that had an electric stove with one. But what was stated was not "deep well cooker", but "deep well pan". That's different. When I googled "deep well pan", I got a lot of hits on square or rectangular...

    Deep Well Pans

OK, so enlighten us.   What's the difference between an aluminum stock pot (which I have plenty of), and a "deep well pan"?

Help or guidance Please for GE p7 wall oven

John,   My error. The model tag says 240, not 220.   By my latest count, I have about 20 washer/dryers/dishwashers in my collection, not including the stuff I use regularly in the main house, and not including ranges of one sort or the other.   Couldn't find the harvest gold door off the...

Ronzoni Discontinues Pastina Pasta No. 155

I remember I loved pastina when I was very young. Haven't had it much since.

    vacuum coffee makers and cost

Well, perhaps because I load up my Keurig coffee with 1 tsp organic sugar, a little vial of creamer (about a tsp, I think), and then top it off at the end with a dollop of canned whipped cream I keep handy in the fridge...   Tastes fine to me. At least as good as any coffee from a regular drip...

    Chrysler Fifth avenue, 1989.

I've had a Plymouth Valiant Signet 200 2-door sedan for decades. It was my first keeper car (I keep trying to forget the '64 Corvair I had for less than a month). I took that car all over - even to Portland, Oregon. Did just fine. Eventually it cracked along the base. Probably from driving it up...

    Nationwide gas stove ban?

On the leaky stove front, I think that's only when there's a serious defect in the range. I remember, when I was in my early teens, watching a PG&E chap come by to help diagnose a malfunctioning range in our rental flat. Turned out someone in the place had maladjusted a pilot light screw and it...

Now I'm wondering if Eddie's Yama pot had synthetic rubber gasket(s)... Because usually synthetic rubber is much more resistant to decay than natural rubber.   If the gasket is gray, it's probably at least in part synthetic.   [ PS - I have a Yama. It's a Yamaha. Fun bike. Ha ha ha. ]

    vacuum coffee makers and cost

Interesting... I drink a cup of coffee just about every day. Used to be more than a cuppa day, but that's a different story.   I went from a Mr. Coffee (or similar) to a variety of others, currently a Keurig 2.0, which I find well suits my tastes and habits.   No, never tried a vacuum...

    Nationwide gas stove ban?

There may also be the consideration that distribution of electrical energy is a lot more energy intensive than distribution of natural gas energy. Why? Well, for starters, electrical current causes heating, and that heating has to be dealt with in some way. Typical ways for power distribution is...

    Nationwide gas stove ban?

I sorted through JohnB300m's video until I got to the assertion "aluminum cookware is generally terrible anyway". I strongly disagree!   For many years my main cookware was pure aluminum. Aluminum heats rapidly and evenly. It may be true that uncoated aluminum cookware may stain quicker than...

    Nationwide gas stove ban?

Here's what I've done to help conserve natural gas and potentially protect the environment:'   1) Set the home gas fired furnace to not run between the hours of 4 pm and 9 pm. This I did because I'm on a plan with PGE that effectively charges more for electricity used during those hours. The...
