    Floor mats/liners

Those clear plastic carpet runners that your grandma used to protect her hallway are good. You can cut them to size, they are cheap, and you can see the carpet too.

Is powdered detergent safe for dishes?

Eddie, I have noticed that. Every one here acts like handwashing is a sin. Just about all of my plates, bowls, glasses, pots and pans are over 50 years old and were never intended to be washed in the dishwasher. I also have just about every piece of Tupperware that was made in the 1970's, and...

    ISO Poppy Red Frigidaire Refrigerator

You would have much better luck finding the refrigerator and painting it poppy red. I had a coppertone refrigerator that died. I wanted another one to match all my other appliances, and I had to find the fridge and paint it coppertone. It is not that hard at all.

Is powdered detergent safe for dishes?

Are there any harmful affects of using powdered detergent for dishes? I know long ago, everybody used powdered laundry detergent to wash dishes. Tide, Dreft, Cheer, Fab and such used to come with instructions for washing dishes. In modern times, I have heard of Mexicans using FOCA to wash...

Gas oven flickers at low temperature

I'm not a dummy, I know they should cycle on and off. What I'm trying to say is that when it is on at a low temperature, there is not sufficient gas flow for a constant flame, it rapidly flickers instead.

Gas oven flickers at low temperature

Late 60's Magic Chef gas range. I seldom use the extremely low temperatures. When set at 170 degrees (F) I can hear the gas "Flickering" on and off. When set at 225 or above it doesn't do this. Is it normal? What should I do about it?

    Pulse dialing

I have a chocolate brown rotary kitchen phone. It was in the house when we moved in many years ago. It was originally an Indiana BELL telephone, then Ameritech and now AT&T. It has always worked, and I have never had any trouble with pulse dialing. In the old days it was 48 Volts DC when talking...

What laundry products do you use and why?

What laundry products do you use and WHY? (Please mention powder or liquid detergent) I would like to compare detergents, softeners, etc. without buying all of them myself. Fridge Condenser Coils - Does Cleaning Really Matter

+1 on the compressor air gun. My old refrigerator was running all day once, and I blew out the coils, (HUGE MESS.) Afterward, it only ran 15 minutes at a time. I don't think it matters as much if your coils are on the back of the refrigerator. If they are underneath, they need regular cleaning.

Cleaning suggestions for vintage vinyl countertops

RE: Eddie Yes, It does smell nice! I have way dated 70's cabinets, but I keep them spotlessly waxed and everyone always asks how I make them look so nice. Information for Spacepig: Spray wax takes less time to apply, but doesn't last as long. Hard wax takes more time to apply, and wastes a lot...

Cleaning suggestions for vintage vinyl countertops

Clean with baking soda and dish soap mixed together. Dry really well and wax with a hard car wax. They will look like brand new. I use this method on just about everything in the kitchen. I wax my cabinets, big and small appliances, counters, etc. I used to do the sheet vinyl floor, but it has...

    Range Picture thread

Yes, a mixer! those are the kind of ideas I am looking for. And yes, my house was built in 1910. Although the kitchen was redone in 1972, there is still only 3 outlets, and one is for the refrigerator/ washing machine. So only 2 useable outlets.
