Now I can cook my dinner electronically!

Congrats on the acquisition! May you enjoy it for years to come :-) #4 Agreed; Divorce and/or unhappiness. The wife either has unreliable information sources, imagines her info, or has cognitive issues. It doesn't really matter. The result is the same: Decisions made according to fantasy, not...

    New combo!

Yeah, that was a problem. If I had a mixed load I'd check it every half hour and take out the lightest garments in the dryer and hang them up. It was a pain but it was faster than waiting for the whole load to be uniformly dry.

    Dehumidifier or Tumble Dryer

#22 I don't think I've ever seen a desiccant dehumidifier here in the US. I've only seen compressor (gas?) types. Thank you. That was most interesting.

    Induction, baby!

A friend got offered an induction hotplate and became a convert in that induction's the only electric cooking he'll pay his own money for. I tried it a few times and now think the same. When I design my own kitchen with 36" high counters I'll have 2 gas burners that work during a power failure...

    Dehumidifier or Tumble Dryer

#20 Good points. Now that I think about it, every situation I had first hand knowledge of was with 30pt units (EVERYONE had that size for some reason) in basements that were cool enough that heat build-up was not an issue. The one time there was a noticeable heat build-up I DID have a 5,000...

    New combo!

Ramblings from a not-fully-caffeinated brain... - So it wasn't me. Their references to prior combos were pretty off the mark. " [The problem was] their approach to drying". Oh, so those 200 rpm spin speeds of most earlier units were not a factor.... Oh, ok. - Did I miss it or were there NO...

One extinct feature you would revive?

I'd like to see those window a/c's that were around briefly in the late 70's, Mostly Kenmore. They had a switch that would let set the unit to provide less cooling and more dehumification than 'normal'. Really good for those days in the low-80's with humidity in the 90's.

    Dehumidifier or Tumble Dryer

#1 Might be worthwhile to pick up a second hand dehumidifier at Goodwill or wherever to see if that helps in the basement. In the northeast the older a home is the less likely (in general) it is to have central a/c/. People use window units. Because humidity usually rises with the temp...

    Dehumidifier or Tumble Dryer

The Flately looks like something people could use today. I'd probably want a few minor updates like a timer, auto-off switches in the event of overheating. tipping, etc.

    Dehumidifier or Tumble Dryer

I've learned bigger is better. Go for a 90pt/24hr model. I have a Danby. It's quiet and fills the tank in about 8 hours. When the weather is cooler you could also use a heated drying rack. See link below. They're just like any other folding drying rack but the rails warm up. Others have a...

2015 Speed Queen Washer Model AWNE82SP113TW01

From the CNN article "But thanks to advances in both washing machine technology and detergent formulations, hot water is no longer needed in most laundering scenarios." Ummmmmm....... what are these 'advances', exactly? Talk about a non-explaining explanation! "Cold clean stupidity...

    Wrangler pants

I used to work in a Wrangler store and we got as shipment of dove grey, PLEATED jeans. I wore them in all sorts of "no jeans allowed" places and nobody ever made a comment. Current favorite jeans are RSQ Skinny from Tilly's: Low rise, wide hips/seat, room in front, and they actually (so I've...

    KAWFFEE

" ... It’s not the caffeine that causes my acid reflux its the acid." That begs the question of how much X amount of eggshells raises the pH of Y amount of coffee. I couldn't find the pH of egg shells but egg whites run about 7.6 when first laid and rise to about 9 after a week or so. Maybe...

    KAWFFEE

My grandmother had the Sunbeam in the middle of pic 2. She gave it to me and for reasons I've forgotten I loaned it to my mom. So I'll likely never see it again. What I loved about it was that after perking it could keep the coffee hot without cooking it. It took some practice with the dial, but...

    The return of top loaders?

#26 So can you buy TL washer & dryer pairs?????? #21 & 22 My problem with FL's is that I'm not a hobbit. However much I might like FL's from a mechanical/technical perspective, my body wants nothing to do with them. Put it this way: My bathroom sink is on legs and stands 42"... And it's...

    Borax! Who’s still using ?

Availability Maybe I've just been lucky, but I don't think I've ever gone to a grocery store and failed to find it. This'd be metro NYC, SE quarter of Conn., and Boston's South Shore.

Care Tags and Expectations in Different Markets

I've seen boilable hospital mattress pads (3'x3') labelled "Machine wash warm, Tumble dry low. Do not bleach." Seriously? I gave them a soak in hot w/detergent and Chlorine bleach, then a heavy duty wash with the same. My mother could not believe I'd gotten them so clean. She said she'd...

    High efficiency Californiaquistan shower heads

I saw an article in the NYT that the 2 agricultural 'sweet zones' are expected to move over the next 100 years or so. In the west it's supposed to hug the coast and move north, but actually expand a bit further inland as one moves north. The other one, occupying the central 1/3 of the US is...

    Gas Range Advice

Most of my life I've had a gas, so I'm biased. I've also had too many power failures to want to be dependent on electricity for cooking or hot water. Speaking of power failures, read the manual make sure you're comfortable lighting the burners with a match. You don't want to wait until a power...
