    Another Set and No Room

Congrats! They look to be in excellent condition. Yeah, I can see how you couldn't say no... Am curious as to what 'soak' and 'softener rinse' do differently. As even I've figured out, what the manuals say 'X' does and what the machine does when you select 'X' can be two very different things....

#52 Glad you liked the story and were able to fill in the blanks. That sentence was supposed to read something like: "My grandmother would VERBALIZE out loud and in detail what she was doing ... etc. ... for the benefit of 3-5 year old me ..." I forgot to mention that she did check tags...

Electrolux Vacuum Cleaner Collection in East Longmeadow, Mass.

#2 My eyes aren't into the whole depth perception thing (seriously, they're not) but it looks like the second hose in the first column is rather excited about having his pic taken. #3 Couldn't resist? Congrats! It is an impressive collection. Please keep us posted as you work your way...

    Antique cars,~1929-earlier...

#29 & 30 When I was in HS a friend and I came upon a 1966 Mercedes 180 for sale. It was 2/3 the way through a rebuild; it needed a TON of minor things my friend and I could do ourselves to finish the job. Ny the time I'd gotten the funds together it was gone :-(

    Antique cars,~1929-earlier...

#3 Yes, Airflows had a nice line to them. Some 37 & 38 Hudsons had flowing proportions as well. After that Hudson started getting a bit 'blocky', IMO. But for pre-WWII nothing gets my tail wagging like a 36 or 37 Cord. Post-WWII design did little for me (except for the Tucker, of course)...

    Sears Timed Only Dryer

Looks like it's been sold. Was the dryer a 120v electric? A ~24" 'apartment' sized? Those are the only dryers I've seen that have a timer dial as the sole control.

#51 Your comment got me to thinking... How DID I learn how to do laundry properly? Again, I think a good chunk of the credit goes to my grandmother who would what she was doing, why she was doing it, and how she came to that conclusion when she was doing laundry. Sorting, cycle, detergent...

Any information on vintage fridge defrosters ??

The grandparents used pots of hot water. I remember as a kid seeing somewhere what looked like an ice scraper for your car, but you plugged it in and used to scrape ice away in your freezer. I asked my grandparents about it. They said no because it was too easy to damage the refrigerator. I was...

Antique Gas stove.. Here we go again? Need all the info I can get!

Some cooktops/hobs and stoves have a battery ignition. Summit makes a few models that do; see links. My grandparents had 2 stoves that were match lit, a Welbilt and a later one with a vented space heater. I'm blanking on the name of the second one, but for some reason I associate that name...

Antique Gas stove.. Here we go again? Need all the info I can get!

" ... most, if not all people under 50 years old today have now idea how to safely use these vintage gas appliances." Good Grief! That never, in a million years, would have occurred to me! I know I'm at the young end of knowing how to regulate heat when cooking on a wood stove and knowing how...

Antique Gas stove.. Here we go again? Need all the info I can get!

There are antique stove restoration services that will inspect a stove and tell you it needs. IIRC there were a number of options depending on what you want/need: - diagnosis - bring it up to code - rebuild: fix what's broken and leave the rest as is - full restoration Or any combination of...

    Downy Defy Damage ???

No worries :-) I'm happy you were able to understand my point. Despite all the practice I've had in my life (and I've had A LOT) with explaining other people's nonsense, I'm still not that good at it and often come off as though *I* am the one who's confused.......

    Downy Defy Damage ???

"Am waiting to read the many posts on internet from people going on about how they don't use FS, but add Downy Damage Control to the wash..... " And those people will probably be the same ones who insist that five 10-watt LED's consume more energy than one 100 watt incandescent bulb because...

    Downy Defy Damage ???

Thank you all for the insight! I had a feeling it was more marketing than anything else. That annoying laws-of-physics obsessed Vulcan who lives in the back of my brain took umbrage at being asked to accept something like that. My grandmother used Fels laundry flakes. My grandfather was...
