What's the deal with microwaves rusting so fast?

I had a Kenmore from 2003 rust in the inside of the door. It still worked fine and to be honest used it for a few years like that before replacing it. Not sure who the manufacturer was. Replaced it with a larger GE a few years ago and haven’t noticed any rust yet. My grandmother got an Oster a...

Vintage 1972 home with two kitchens

Those are Hunter cast iron ceiling fans, one of, if not the best ceiling fans ever made. They use the oil bath motor that dates back over 100 years.

Vintage 1972 home with two kitchens

Corning Thanks, that was the name l was trying to think of, but it escaped me. I agree, while expensive (to me) that is a lot of house for the price, especially on an acre of land. I Actually like the interior and the architecture. I do not like that indoor pool though, I don’t like pools...

Vintage 1972 home with two kitchens

Looks like both kitchens have Jenn Aire grills and built in toasters, the basement kitchen has a GE Americana fridge and a vintage flat top range. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3300-Tally-Ho-Dr-Kokomo-IN-46902/85363610_zpid/

RDS (Radio Data System) Compatible FM Receivers

We did have some of the traffic functionality on RDS here in the US, at least my previous car had a TRAF button that would tune to a station that broadcasted traffic updates, when pressed. Not sure on the one I have now. Most of these RDS receivers I’ve seen, can also do a search by program...

    GE Spacemaker Range

Looks very clean, I’m guessing these were made possibly into the 90s. https://www.facebook.com/share/TyRBteKSBRQfdF1M/?mibextid=79PoIi

RDS (Radio Data System) Compatible FM Receivers

I enjoy having radios with RDS (Radio Data System) compatibility on the FM dial. For some reason, this technology didn’t seem to catch on here in the United States as soon as it did in Europe and possibly other countries. And it seems to predominately be seen most often in vehicle stereo head...

Businesses in your area “in the middle of nowhere?”

Dollar stores Dollar stores, like Dollar General and Family Dollar, sell mostly general merchandise. Some automotive, stationery, toys, home decor, small appliances, greeting cards, clothing (mostly underwear and socks but some stores sell outerwear and shoes), cleaning supplies, groceries...

Businesses in your area “in the middle of nowhere?”

Are there any stores, restaurants or businesses in your area that are desolate or in the middle of nowhere seemingly? Here we have a few. I live about 8 miles away from the downtown area, and they built a Dollar General right on the highway near my neighborhood. There were no water hydrant...

Try the "The number you have reached . . ." trick on your answering machine.

I stopped getting the spam calls lately on my cell phone. I might get one or two unknown numbers calling in a month, a few years ago it was far more frequent.

Try the "The number you have reached . . ." trick on your answering machine.

Yes, I heard that if you put those three ascending tones at the start of your message, the robocallers automatically remove the number from the list, as those trigger it as a disconnected number. You can say whatever you want after those three tones, such as leave a message, etc.

    Broadcast AM radio listening.

3 month free trial Very interesting. I did have a 3 month trial when I purchased the car used, for Sirius XM and Travel Link. I’ll have to check on that, I have heard if rare instances where older vehicles still had service years later, but I thought perhaps the previous owner had purchased a...

    Lowest oven setting?

That brings up a good point. Why did more MOL and TOL electric ranges tend to have a separate selector knob and thermostat knob, where more BOL ranges like 20” and 24” ranges have just the thermostat dial only? I think most new ranges with dial oven controls and no timers have only the...

    Broadcast AM radio listening.

Most of the AM radio here is racing talk, sports broadcasts, or conservative talk news. I have scanned the AM dial at night, some odd stuff comes on like Coast to Coast AM. John Tesh still does a syndicated radio show every weekday on one of the local FM stations. Mostly I listen to music...

    Lowest oven setting?

What’s the lowest setting on your oven or most ovens? We have a 1985 Hotpoint electric with analog dial controls. The lowest marked temperature is 200, but there’s one more mark below that and then the WM/min setting. I assumed the mark below the 200 is 175 and then warm is 150. I used to put...

    Frigidaire Gallery Convection Range

I know joeekaitis bought the induction model as well, with the touch controls. I’m thinking of if one bought one of the GE convection models it could probably show the time and temp at the same time as well. Probably LG and Samsung too, not sure on Whirlpool. My guess the larger display like...

    Frigidaire Gallery Convection Range

I really liked the Frigidaire Gallery electric radiant range with convection and air fry. (pic below) Unfortunately it appears to be discontinued. Lowes still has it on display but I don’t see it available online. It appears to be replaced by a new model with the burner and warming zone knobs...

Rear-control induction stoves: And then there were none

I thought the only reason gas ranges have front controls is because, it’s a gas valve and burner. It would be pretty complicated to have the piping and all at the rear, so they all have had front or side controls. At least, I’ve never seen one with rear controls. Think I heard Sunray had a gas...
