    A tale of two P&G detergents…

Hi Rich- I have quite a number of detergents in the cupboard—see photo #4 below—but the TideMatic from India gets used once every week or two. I prefer slightly it over the ArielMatic, also made by P&G in India. The Ariel is even sudsier than TideMatic and doesn’t rinse out as efficiently as...

GE getting back into commercial laundry

Eugene at Lorain Furniture & Appliance did a "first look" at the GE Commercial top-loader about a year ago. As has been stated by others in this thread, he wasn't enthusiastic about the build quality, but the machine was obviously supposed to compete with the Maytag commercial washer for the...

    Cold water washing has arrived

mysteryclock—I found that powdered Tide Professional cleaned stains a little better in warm water compared to washing in cool water. See the photos in Reply 99 above. Tide Pro and Persil Bio—the version made by Unilever in the UK—are my current favorite powdered detergents.

Stain Tests: Tide Evo Tiles; Tide Ultimate Stain Release; EC30 Tiles

I performed one final test of powdered Tide Professional, this time in cool (75-80 degrees F) water. Follow the link to see the towels in Jetcone’s “Cold water washing has arrived” thread. Interestingly, the results using cool water were slightly worse than when using warm water...

    Cold water washing has arrived

Tested powdered Tide Professional on a purposely stained kitchen towel, this time using cool water. I paused the washer as it began to drain the wash water—it still drained the rest of the water, but I was able to stick an instant read thermometer into the load and it registered 74 degrees F. As...

    Cold water washing has arrived

I performed the purposely stained kitchen towel test using 60 grams of powdered Tide Professional on the Normal cycle of a front-loading Speed Queen 7009. Results were impressive! Follow link to see the towels in the thread where the other Tide detergents were tested...

Stain Tests: Tide Evo Tiles; Tide Ultimate Stain Release; EC30 Tiles

I performed the purposely stained towel test using 60 grams of powdered Tide Professional. You know the drill: The towel was stained and allowed to dry for 12 hours before laundering. Washer: Speed Queen 7009 front-loader; Normal Cycle; Warm water; Max soil level (50 minute wash tumble)...

    Cold water washing has arrived

My box arrived yesterday. Will do a stained kitchen towel test this weekend. The scent is really nice. It’s not really floral or fruity. A sensible scent for a detergent. On a similar note of scarcity, Walmart online is already sold out of the “original scent” of the Tide Evo detergent tiles...

Correct dose of HE detergent based on sudsing

Call your city water office and ask what the water hardness is—in grains per gallon—and you’ll have a good idea of whether you need to dose detergent higher or lower than package recommendation. The water in my town is pretty hard: 24 gpg. I have a water softener so the water is very, almost...

    Cold water washing has arrived

“I can resist everything except temptation.” (Oscar Wilde) Yep. Even though I have enough powdered detergent to last years, I had to order a box of the new Tide Professional. I really want to give it the purposely stained kitchen towel test. Bob- And from liquids to pods and back to liquids...

    Fels Naptha Changes again.

There was always a bar of Fels Naptha at the laundry room sink when I was a kid in the early to mid 1960s. It’s a scent you don’t forget! I remember my mom rubbing it into greasy stains on clothing. Must have worked well or she wouldn’t have kept using it.

    Cold water washing has arrived

Interesting! I wonder how it will do when the water is 43-45 degrees during a typical Minnesota winter. I loved Rosalie Zero Suds, by the way. It was my go-to for loads of heavy bath towels, etc. I rationed it as long as I could.

Stain Tests: Tide Evo Tiles; Tide Ultimate Stain Release; EC30 Tiles

I’d say the towel washed in 140F degree water did a slightly better job on most stains, but a bit worse on the Frank’s Hot Sauce. It’s been fun to see the subtle differences in performance of these detergents. To conclude the testing, I’d like to put UK (Unilever) Persil Bio through its paces...

Stain Tests: Tide Evo Tiles; Tide Ultimate Stain Release; EC30 Tiles

One last test of the Tide Evo tiles. > SQ front-loader; load filled about 2/3 capacity of the 3.5 cu. ft. drum > Sanitize With Oxi cycle; hot (140F degree wash); light soil setting (50 minute wash tumble) > 1 Tide Evo Laundry Tile > All tests utilized a 50 minute wash tumble. Photo 1: The...

Stain Tests: Tide Evo Tiles; Tide Ultimate Stain Release; EC30 Tiles

Stefan- It will be easy to do the stain test with 140F degree water. I’ll use the Sanitize With Oxi cycle. The light soil setting provides a 50 minute wash tumble, as does the max soil setting on the Normal cycle. Tom- While I can’t get up to those near-boiling temps, adding the Stain Boost...

    Tide Original

Launderess- I had excellent results using liquid Persil ProClean + Stain Fighter. I thought it squeaked past Tide Ultimate Stain Release in performance. Used it regularly in the SQ top-loader with no issues. Unfortunately, I found that using only a scant tablespoon created too much suds in the...

Have Increasing Energy Prices Caused Change in Your Laundry Routine

Have not changed laundry habits. I have a front-load washer and an electric dryer. The electric rate in this very small town is only 9.54 cents per kilowatt. Water heating and furnace run on natural gas, which is also inexpensive here.
