    Speed Queen FF7009BN and DF7004BG

It cleans as well as the other front-loaders I’ve had. The default soil level for all cycles is medium, which is fine for lightly soiled loads and keeps cycle times fairly short. I generally use the max soil setting if loads have stains that haven’t been pretreated to give either enzyme...

    Speed Queen FF7009BN and DF7004BG

Hi Mark- While I love the SQ 7009 washer and like the companion dryer, it was my second choice to the LG4000 washer and its companion dryer. The SQ won because it is about 2” shallower than the LG and space in front of my pair is SO tight that those 2” made the difference. That, and the LGs...

    A tale of two P&G detergents…

Thanks for the links, Launderess. Interesting there are differentiated Matic versions for top-loaders and front-loaders. I could go for the lime scented Tide. Many years ago I had a couple of bags of Mexican lime-scented Ace (ah-chay) that was heavenly. I like the uniquely shaped measuring caps...

    Speed Queen FF7009BN and DF7004BG

The 7009 Washer: I learned a couple of days ago that if you choose hot water in the Normal (Eco) cycle, you actually get hot water! The water level for the two rinses is extremely low, but all the spins ramp up very fast and the final spin is about 13 minutes long at 1200 rpm. I like the Heavy...

    Speed Queen FF7009BN and DF7004BG

Hi Glenn- I almost always choose the ‘Near Dry’ or ‘Timed Dry’ settings. I think the four automatic options are Damp, Less Dry, Near Dry, and Dry. The dryer tends to run long, especially with loads of mixed colors—shirts, lightweight slacks, that sort of thing—but Less Dry leaves them a little...

    A tale of two P&G detergents…

Steve- Correct; I’m the guy who now has three big boxes of UK Persil Bio and three Non-Bio. I use the non-bio version in hot water and the bio enzyme cocktail version in warm. Both do a great job. The reason I’ve chosen powdered detergents lately is that shipping liquids to the frozen Minnesota...

    A tale of two P&G detergents…

I enjoy trying detergents from other countries, as well. I’m currently using powdered Persil—made by Unilever from the UK—to great results. As with your detergents from India, I like the unique scent and the excellent cleaning power. As far as the cost goes, so what? Enjoy your detergents from...

    Speed Queen FF7009BN and DF7004BG

I have the 7009 in white (purchased in Oct ‘23) and the non-steam version of the dryer. For reference, my prior set was the SQ 9-Series (purchased July ‘17), which was a top-loading washer. I’ve had front-loaders as my daily driver since 1987, several sets were Frigidaire (both WCI and...

    Which dishwasher gel to use?

For what it’s worth, from the US product testing organization we love to hate: Walmart’s Great Value Gel is the top scoring gel with a total score of 74, followed by Cascade Gel With Dawn scoring a 68. Scores for other gels drop pretty significantly after that.

    My "new" Neptune Set

Congratulations, Mark! That is a really beautiful Maytag set. Front-loaders are custom-made for large items like comforters and blankets. I’ve always preferred horizontal axis washers. Glad you found the riser for the pair. Risers or pedestals of some sort are must-haves for me. Makes loading...

Speed Queen Front Loader owners . . . cleaning results?

My 2023 SQ front-loader does an excellent job of cleaning. Full disclosure: I have softened water; water heater is set at 140 degrees; washer is eight inches away from water heater.

British Essentials Sent The Wrong Persil: Non Bio Instead of Bio

Bob- I still say that the gold standard for front-loaders is an onboard water heater, but in my circumstance, the Speed Queen was about 1-1/2 inches shallower than an LG 4000 and space is so tight in front of my laundry pair that the 1-1/2 inch difference won the day. I didn’t realize that LG...

British Essentials Sent The Wrong Persil: Non Bio Instead of Bio

Launderess— I like the simplicity of doing the bleach cycle first, so will probably stick with that. I’ve purposely stained kitchen towels, bar mops and even bath linen hand towels with all sorts of common cooking-related stains and my admittedly reversed process has yet to fail. Every single...

British Essentials Sent The Wrong Persil: Non Bio Instead of Bio

Thanks for locating and sharing the video, Launderess! I was surprised at how well the bio version did at room temp, which I’m assuming is around 72F (22C). As for the non bio detergent, my washer’s incoming hot tap temp is 140F (60C). The warm setting comes in at around 100-105F (40C). Haven’t...

British Essentials Sent The Wrong Persil: Non Bio Instead of Bio

A happy update: Well, three cheers for British Essentials, who sent three boxes of powdered Persil Bio across the pond free of charge. You may recall they originally sent three boxes of the Non Bio version in error. Nice to see a company that treats customers—in another country, even—well. A...

    Cheer TV Commercial

Glenn— I recall Cheer ads that used the catchphrase “All temp-a-Cheer” but have never seen this one before. Thanks for sharing it!

    Solid Tub Speed Queen Set

I’m late to the party, but congratulations! The washer has all the operational flexibility one could ask for. They’re beauties, too.

British Essentials Sent The Wrong Persil: Non Bio Instead of Bio

Launderess— I have a water softener, so the water is super soft. Have since washed two far less demanding loads—mixed colors in warm water; bed linens in hot—and used three tablespoons (30gr) with good results. This happy accident—getting Non Bio instead of Bio—may work to my advantage. You...

British Essentials Sent The Wrong Persil: Non Bio Instead of Bio

Wow, the Persil Non Bio passed its first test with flying colors, or whites in this case. Had a full capacity load of whites, none of which had the stains I find most problematic—Rao’s Marinara Sauce; mustard; Worcestershire sauce—so I ran the load using the Sanitize With Oxi cycle at the...

British Essentials Sent The Wrong Persil: Non Bio Instead of Bio

Hi Launderess! I was hoping you’d jump into this conversation. Thanks for linking the legacy threads. You have mad skills with this site’s Wayback Machine. Decided I’m going to tear into a box of the Persil Non Bio. I have a load of kitchen/bath/personal whites to do today. No terribly...
