    Most Boring Automatic Washer

Maytags are Soothing... Yes. They are. They're well built, reliable, do a decent job washing, and a decently short cycle, last forever... But they're boring! They fill, then agitate. As soon as they start, a thin film of suds cover the surface of the water and that's the end of the show...

    Most Boring Automatic Washer

Oh I'm gonna get it...... Most boring washer? Vintage Maytag Toploader........ Bring forth the pitchforks and torches, but have you actually WATCHED one of those machines? *YAWN* Absolutely no drama. The water on the surface hardly breaks and you can't even suds lock it. How fun is that...

    Speed Queen by Maytag

You KNOW you've got a winner when they spell words like "Heavey" and "Capicity"

Changing my GE's Transmission - Question...

Here's Low... This is "low"......so much for doing a "small" load! For reference, on "Low" the basket is about 2/3 full of water.

Changing my GE's Transmission - Question...

Here's mine... Mine's a mid 80's model, but the "Low" setting seems awfully high. Like ridiculously high! Here's the setting for the mini-basket, which seems about right... I had to add a little soap to the water since you couldn't see the level against the black tub!

    Bendix DuoMatic in Cleveland (50s?)

http://cleveland.craigslist.org/clt/1172478172.html Not mine, but it might be of interest to someone up north! Way too far to ship it down here. http://cleveland.craigslist.org/clt/1172478172.html

Cable TV: Do people actually watch this stuff?

That's why I don't even bother watching TV anymore. As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing worth watching. I don't care for sports, the "cooking" shows are anything but, the "reality" crap they call TV..... Then when something comes on that's not completely insulting to your intelligence...

There's a Ladybug in my Shower now

I guess I'm just that special! I have a patented system for timing the hot water in my shower.... Step 1: Walk in bathroom. Step 2: Turn shower on "Hot" Step 3: Undress Step 4: Use Facility Step 5: Stick hand in shower to detect arriving hot water Step 6: Wait for water to get all the way hot...

A "Plea" From An Oil Exec

Don't feel sorry for the Oil Execs! Not at all! They made a record breaking amount of money in 2008! Do they NEED that much money? NO! If they were worth a damn they'd have gone out and SPENT some of that money on alternative fuels that work (Biofuels, solar, and Hydrogen do NOT work) and...

A "Plea" From An Oil Exec

Precisely why I drive a Honda that never gets below the mid 30's on it's worst days. Oil prices have little if anything to do with the oil companies, and everything to do with a small room of corporate fat-cats in New York known commonly as "Futures Traders". THEY are the ones who solely...

What can you tell me about a 1999 Whirlpool Gold?

earthling177...... It seems as though you were the victim of a buildup of tolerances. You had naturally soft water which sucks for washing. You had a house full of roommates that were too stupid to load a dishwasher. You obviously used the incorrect detergent for your needs. Naturally soft...

    Ice maker follies

Kelvy Icemaker For something that's supposed to wear out, this sucker's been making ice since the early 70s for a family of 4! My parents' modern Whirlpool has plastic gears and cams in it and it's already had to be replaced once since they bought the fridge 3 years ago. Like the homemade...

What can you tell me about a 1999 Whirlpool Gold?

I have no intention of letting this dishwasher go. If I ever move from here, it's coming with me! Thanks to AppNut I now have the manuals and parts lists for it. Why I never thought to scour the Whirlpool site boggles even my own feeble mind... Heres to hoping it can keep it going for many more...

What can you tell me about a 1999 Whirlpool Gold?

Sani-Rinse... It has an actual Sani-Rinse button on it. Inside the upper lip of the door, it actually has an NSF certification sticker regarding the Sani-Rinse, so I think this one's got a true Sani. The model number is GU980SCGQ2 Interestingly my washer lacks any sort of clips to locate the...

    Ice maker follies

Ah yes... The modern "circuit-board" icemakers........WHY did they think that was necessary?!?!? I'm still on my parents very first icemaker. It's a Kelvinator (Rebadged Whirlpool Old-Style) that came in a coppertone Kelvy when they got married in 1973. So far it's been through 3 refrigerators...

What can you tell me about a 1999 Whirlpool Gold?

Sani Rinse... Can you define Sani-Rinse for me? This one turns the heating element on during the last part of the cycle and heats the water to near boiling. When it's doing the "Sani-Rinse" portion, there are massive quantities of steam coming out of the vent on the front....hence the...

What can you tell me about a 1999 Whirlpool Gold?

So..... I'm assuming this is a true Whirlpool design? Whatever they did, it's an excellent washer! Between this beast and the GE washer, I'm sure I'm the enemy of the local aquifer... What kind of failures are these machines known for? I like it enough that if it fails, I want to be able to...
