    Filter-Flo Spin Question

I'm just curious since it never did that before! Then again, with only one clutch shoe grabbing, it took it an eternity to come up to spin speed. Usually it was still draining by the time the spray rinse came on!

    Filter-Flo Spin Question

I recently rebuilt the 2-speed clutch in my GE and now I've got a spin question. The washer hasn't worked properly since I first got it and was apparently running on only 1 clutch shoe all this time! Now that the clutch has been rebuilt, it wants to come up to spin speed FAST. This translates...

    Maytag A806 Washer water leaks

Just get a new top seal. They're less than $10 and easy to install. If you need silicone to make it watertight, you're doing something wrong!

    Using Craigslist Better

Firefox Ad... It's not an advertisement for Firefox. Craigslist uses "referrers" to keep tabs on what city you clicked to search. It writes a "cookie" into your browser cache, and that's why every time you return to Craigslist it sends you to the last city you looked in. IE, Safari, and many...

    Ever heard a QUIET GE?

Here's the EnergyGuide sticker... I don't even want to know what the machine receiving the rating of the "most expensive" washer was that year...

    Ever heard a QUIET GE?

I think that white GE is a very similar model to the one I've got. From what I've been told it's a mid-late 80's model. I've never gotten a firm date on when it was made.

    Ever heard a QUIET GE?

Neither had I until I rebuilt the clutch in mine! This is the same harvest gold GE Filter-Flo I've had since the beginning of the year and I finally decided to do something about the volume of noise it was creating. Since the machine came to me, it's gotten quite a bit of TLC, but I've never...

1967 G.E. MOBILE MAID PUMP IMPELLER IS OUT! PICS!

Lower Bearing.... NEVER EVER USE GREASE IN A SLEEVE BEARING!!!!!!! Got your attention? Good! Go to your nearest hardware store and get some 3-in-1 MOTOR OIL. It comes in a blue bottle, and is SAE20 that is detergent free. If you install grease, thin oil, or engine motor oil, kiss that motor...

Maytag Highlander 126 Free For the Taking...

Some of you might remember the epic undertaking of restoring a Maytag Highlander 126 earlier this year that I did. Anyway, I'm finally sick of having that machine around.....the brake issues are bumming me out and I'm tired of messing with it... So...... I'm offering it for free for whoever...

Once again the TDI reigns supreme

I'll stick to my Honda thankyouverymuch... 60K miles and 5 years later and it's never been in the shop for anything more than a leaky A/C schrader valve. I still get 40+ on the highway and it's not even a hybrid. Considering that's with my lead foot and the A/C running full blast all the time...

    FriGEMore laundry center: experiences?

Don't get me wrong, it's a decent washer. My only complaint is the eternity-long cycle and the roaring bearing. Yes, I've complained, but they say that if they replace it when it hasn't failed, they may charge me for the repair. Considering that I paid around $400 for the machine, when it dies...

    FriGEMore laundry center: experiences?

Tub Bearing / Spider I've got one of the 3.1 cu. ft. Frigemore frontloaders that's less than 2 years old. I have babied that thing it's whole life, and it's already got the whine of a failing bearing in it on spin. I'm going to use it until it craps out then find something else to be my daily...

    Vintage Mixers.

The older KA's were nearly bulletproof. I've got a KA K4 from 1940 that's my main mixer. I got it on eBay many months ago for a song. It looks pretty rough, but still runs like a top. When I saw it, I just knew it needed a full restore, but it runs so good that I've never torn it down to fix it...

    A206S doesn't spin out

How come nobody told him to make sure it's draining properly? It could be something as simple as a kinked drain line, a clogged pump, or a quarter blocking off the tub sump. If the machine isn't draining right, it will NEVER ramp up to spin.

    Electrostatic filters for the AC

If the blower motor burns up, then the unit is a piece of shit! No way around it. Those motors are designed to run for years and years regardless of the amount of dirt caked on them. The filtration is there to keep the ducts clean and the A/C coils free from getting crap clogging them up. I...

    Fridgemore questions

I have a 3.1 cubic foot Fridgemore front loader with the mechanical controls on it. It's only about 2 years old and the rear bearing is already getting "clunky". The machine isn't even used much. The Spider seems to be in good shape, but the bearing isn't long for this world I'm afraid. I'll use...

    Electrostatic filters for the AC

I don't trust those thermostats. I just walk under the return duct and look up every once in a while. If I can tell there's dust on the filter I pull it and clean it. I never let it get to the point of restricting airflow.

    Electrostatic filters for the AC

I don't have any experience with that particular filter, but when I bought this house it came with a permanent electrostatic filter. Mine's a commercial model that's basically a 1" thick frame with 8 layers of electrostatic material. It's all black with no visible webbing. It works quite well...
